I went to school with the Awrey kids. Is the Awrey bakery still around?

Sheesh, a quick search of one of the kids, Linda Awrey, said she killed herself in 1989. How sad.

DETROIT -- Linda Awrey, the pioneering president of Awrey Bakeries' food-service division here, died last month at her suburban Birmingham home. She had turned 38 just five days earlier.

Police said Awrey died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound in an apparent suicide. They said she left a note, the contents of which were not disclosed.

A friend, alarmed at Awrey's not having kept an appointment and at her depressed state in recent weeks, asked the police to investigate. They found her body.

Awrey resigned from her suburban Livonia family-owned company in April and was determined to start independently again with her own new company, Awrey Group Ltd., as a national food-service sales-brokerage firm.

She was one of the few women who made it to the top of a food-service company and was highly respected throughout the industry. She has been on the board of directors of the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association for the last few years and was recently named to the board of the National Frozen Food Association.
