Didn't that genre name die out in the mid nineties along with flannel?

Actually, I'm not sure how those bands highlighted wouldn't fit today's definition of "alternative." As a radio format anyway...
5/18 Rolling Stones @ Honda Center 5/25 Limp Bizkit @ Observatory 6/3 Sting @ SB Bowl
    6/8 Ink-n-Iron @ Queen Mary 6/9 Tom Petty @ Fonda 7/12 Black Flag @ Observatory
    7/28 Justin Timberlake/Jay-Z @ Rose Bowl 8/3 Americana Festival @ Verizon Wireless
8/28 Black Sabbath @ Verizon Wireless 9/15 Uproar Festival @ Verizon Wireless
    9/28 Depeche Mode @ Staples

It did, and was replaced by "indie" (which is now almost as equally dead as "alternative").

    6/8 - The Field @ El Rey
    6/18 Eleanor Friedberger @ Echo/Mount Kimbie @ Echoplex double-dip
    6/28 - Baths @ El Rey
    8/24-25 - FYF Fest
    9/12 -GY!BE @ Fonda
    9/15 - GY!BE @ Belly Up
    9/24 - Depeche Mode @ SB Bowl

There's nothing alternative about Vampire Weekend's shitty indie pop rock.

They may not be the best band of the weekend, but at least they are a little more creative then Monoe's regurgitated crap. I still can't believe you actually were right about her playing and the fact she'll be taking up a nice spot on the mainstage.

Who is Monoe? You mean Monáe?

Janelle Monáe is an extremely creative and unique artist who dabbles in all sorts of genres whereas Vampire Weekend is nothing more than weak, regurgitated pop-rock.

I'm not a huge Vampire Weekend fan but their sound is fairly unique. If it's regurgitated who are they aping? I honestly wouldn't care one way or another about them but there performance at Sasquatch a couple years back was pretty fantastic so I was forced to revaluate my opinion.

This thread already exists (just swap "alternative" for "indie"), but I'd just like to point out that this is my 69th post. Nice.
