The answer: never, but people just didn't pay enough attention. They were a fantastic live act who released at least two spectacular albums, and I'm glad to have been able to have witnessed them more than once.
Wait, what, they broke up? I loved that last album.

Am I interrupting an AV club meeting?
Yeah, they played a few farewell shows a year or two ago and called it a day. BJ Warshaw put out a great album under the name Shooting Spires and Dan Friel has two really excellent solo releases out there that continue his noisy synth tones that he contributed to Parts and Labor.
Their last show was February 24, 2012 in 285 Kent in Brooklyn. They played an hour and a half playing songs from every band era, with the original drummers playing along with Joe. They had live horns, someone playing bagpipes and further craziness. It was amazing; there was a lot of energy in the crowd.
Also I didn't know that Dan had solo albums! I will have to check them out.
Yeah, Dan put out his first solo album, Ghost Town, back in 2008. I listened to it like crazy back then and this makes me want to revisit it. I haven't heard the new one he put out earlier this year, but it's been getting nothing but good marks.
