The article does not specify The National & Postal Service as headliners. So that leaves 2 open spots I guess for bigger names.

Yeah, NIN and The Cure have to be the ones missing, they will contrast those other names. So who goes against Mumford? Cause they will probably be the biggest draw.
    Friday-NIN vs the Killers
    Saturday-Vampire Weekend vs Mumford
    Sunday-Phoenix vs the Cure

considering The Cure are playing Osheaga i wouldn't be surprised if they were there. Also if the NIN rumor is true then there are your last two headliners.

I don't get the idea that this is a weak year for headliners at festivals, etc., etc.

This is the new reality of: a) the festival circuit having been a thing for close to a decade now (Radiohead can only headline every festival so many times) and, b) the idea of "big" in the music industry being scaled down substantially from what it was ten or twenty years ago, particularly for rock bands.

I think you're waiting for this band to headline every other festival next year

This would make the most sense.

    or European festivals!
Indeed. I'll be sure to take a moment to thank Xenu for my Mumford-free year while losing my shit at Blur or tripping my balls off at My Bloody Valentine.

Haha next tour cycle will be "Jesus Christ, Arcade Fire again?" too. If it happens at all: I'll be interested to see if new parenthood limits the normal album/tour cycle this time around.

Maybe C3 is saving surprises for the first ever double ACL.

Surprised US festivals haven't nabbed ACDC or Maiden or Van Halen and Lolla hasn't done Petty or Neil. Maybe it's time to up the ante on Stripes/REM/Talking Heads offers. If Bowie does anything it'll be his own show. Prince has only done 1 festival in the US in his entire career. Bruce has only done 'Roo. U2 are overdue for something in the US that will get people under 40 excited.

I think it also puts more emphasis on the Roses/Blur booking being that inspired.

Where do The National stand? Do they get the exact same time they got in 2010 when they subbed for Arcade Fire, or are they the "weakest" headliner for the group? They're not billed too high for Bonnaroo, but does anyone think they have a legit shot at headlining?

    They arent headlining.

Cause acl having The Boss, Depeche Mode and Atoms for Peace is going to make Lolla look pedestrian, right? C3 knows acl will sell out bot weekends pretty fast regardless. The older fanbase takes care of that. Its all about timing. Next year its going to be Timberlake and Daft Punk everywhere, right?

Are double sell out for ACL really that much of a given?

Ultra had W1 tickets until right before the festival and Chella 13 passes can be had for under face value on stub hub and elsewhere right now.

Promoters in the US will be gun shy about booking Justin as a headliner. Or any pop act. Gaga lolla being a very weird anomoly.

Has my "Coachella is NOT a sellout" reality been recognized by everyone now? Almost like I went from Crazy Uncle Zafo to that guy we don't admit was right, or it would shame the lot of us. Stubhub will not be buying bulk in advance from Coachella in 2014 unless there are significant headliners before hand, unless buying in bulk nets them tickets for under two hundred a pop (which is the only way any of this makes any sense). We should all be so lucky that Coachella can sell out its entire stock of tickets without having a valuable lineup. Now serving loaves of play dough bread. You'll eat. God damn right you will.

The national did not sub, MGMT did. Ostensibly they will play the same slot FloMo did last year. 75 minute slot on a main stage.

That's basically subbing. Considering they played longer than MGMT did on that same side of the park.
