Yeah Goldenvoice should have given those slots on Friday and Saturday to Muse and The Killers.........

Please make a list of acceptable headliners that Goldenvoice could have booked but chose not to.

Or, you know, get yourself fucked.

The casual music fan is actually much more likely to be highly entertained by new songs that they can't sing along with every word to than the diehard music dork is. People will be excited to hear new material. Shut the fuck up.
"Band they love" or "album they loved in 2010"? Those ticketmaster interactive maps can make for an interesting discussion compared to 2010 numbers in the same city. There's a lot of pressure hanging on that single that drops on Monday.

Smaller stages and clubs welcome untested material. Fans of bigger names welcome 1-2 new tracks but start scratching their heads when that number gets higher. Yet of the at least 8 "name" acts I've seen play in person doing unfamiliar material yielded a sometimes underwhelming experience in every case. Neil Young, Oasis, Weezer, Cure, Jeff Beck, REM, Metric and Beck.

What shows have you seen by "name" acts that did 3+ unheard songs that had had the audience eating out of their hands?

Phoenix have 3 things to prove on April 13/20. They justify the bump up from mid size venues to top liner, they aren't a one album wonder in most peoples eyes and they can entertain fans with songs they have likely never heard. That's a big mountain to climb, much more than Tool 2006(album leaked a couple weeks earlier) or Coldplay Germany 2011.

The Coachella Festival disagrees with you. With Damon playing 4 times, Noel twice, Jarvis twice and one of the Roses returning.

Why not sell your wrtistband while it still can flipped for a full return on what you paid.

    Neil Young & Crazy Horse

On a side note, there must be some promoters that are thrilled(or felt they dodged a bullet) they didn't book Gaga to headline any festival this summer.

This is asinine, Bumblebee. This is a another version of the dozens of posts you made at this time last year to the effect of "Can Dr. Dre keep people entertained for a full 90 minutes?" The only thing they have to do is show up and play an entertaining set. No one is intellectualizing this -- or any other performance -- in terms of a bunch of industry standards except for their management, a handful of very dumb journalists, and you.

It's not a question of "how", but a question of "why".

I liked the beginning but then when he said "Entertainment..." and the chorus or whatever came on it got so cringe worthy.

You would think you want to release it by March so that your fans would know the songs. No one wants brand new songs from a headliner that no one knows the words to so every just stands quietly.
I like Phoenix a lot, but who understands or listens to their lyrics anyway?? Let's enjoy it.

It wasn't even good background music. Even the new Bowie and Strokes songs that just came out had some kind of character. This was whatever. Prince/ Outkast and Daft Punk are going to be last minute adds for Friday/ Saturday anyway. Lucky us, right?

Funny how the opening line is "headline from this day on...." Goldenvoice had no choice.
