We have a misery back guarantee. You can have it back at any time

In case anyone may have clicked onto page 6 of this fine thread it's actually about having 12 step meetings at Coachella. We do it every year cause we like it. First post in the thread lays it all out.

Is it possible for me to apply for a misery refund but have it sent to someone else? One of my... friends... is desperately in need of some extra misery and I'd like to try to... help... him as much as possible.

Word. Whatever gets you where you need to go. I had to drop everything except for caffiene, myself, but I support however people go at it.

I go to music events without 12 step meetings all the time. This year I'll be going to Movement in Detroit without a meeting. I do Pitchfork without meetings, Flow fest in Finland without meetings, and Neon Marshmallow Fest without meetings. Not to mention all the bars and clubs I go to see shows at on a regular basis. I used to work, put on shows, and have band practice at the Smell for a few years, all without needing to huddle up with other addicts and alcoholics.

Pathetic has nothing to do with why we meet at Coachella. We're friends. Deal with it.

I have out drunk every squid (USN) I knew in high school, every college student and locals from Cabo to the border North, usually lose to those darn Canadians when it comes to beer , but I could also go for hours or all day acting like normal, just a bit buzzed to friends. The next day, I didn't remember anything. It also trashes my liver. So for me, no more drinking, pretty simple. The other things, vaporizers and ??? it doesn't trash my body. So it's a choice dude, anything, nothing, just some things ... cr****

Some people aren't so strong willed and they want to enjoy music despite mistakes made in life. They shouldn't have to miss out on Coachella.

As long as you consider drug use to have been a mistake, you'll never let yourself live it down. Seriously, we all make mistakes, but substance abuse isn't one of those mistakes. It's a detour to see the countryside. Lots of mishaps on such detours, but some of us make it back to the main road

+What I mean to say is... If you can be around your DOC and not use it, or better yet, just use a little, and not bother with it for years afterward, than you have just become MUCH stronger than the version of you who lives with a stupid fear, and the burden of saying no to the drugs, and to yourself. Knowing you can say yes is powerful, especially when you choose to say no, and you mean it. Some of you know what I'm talking about.

PS I consistently wonder why people who don't want to be sober come into this thread to hold forth on why being sober and having meetings is somehow unacceptable to them. It's cool that you have an opinion about things. I have opinions, too! It's fun! But I don't go on threads about jogging and be like "fuck jogging. Your problem is you just need to accept yourself and learn to only jog when the time is right for jogging, dumbasses."

    I just don't go jogging.

I intend to be intoxicated on various substances each day.

But I don't feel the need to hate on those who'd like to be sober, or have a support group for it.

I'm a special kind of asshole.

SERIOUSLY. I work in a drug treatment program...I always remind my clients to be aware of their "red flag" places and people......if Coachella is a "red flag" place for you then maybe you should reconsider going?

oh good, someone working in drug treatment who's a condescending asshole.

    just what we need.

not to mention the fact that if they didn't realize coachella was a 'red flag' place full of 'red flag' people, they wouldn't be having a fucking meeting.

How is meeting with other people in recovery and sharing an incredible weekend doing the things we love to do together while not being dope sick come Monday morning a red flag? Show your work.

If recovery from addiction was some long slow death from melancholy, I'd have checked out a decade ago. I celebrate my recovery daily because I'm not out scamming, stealing, and hurting others just to avoid withdrawals. I've had a chance to raise a family, build a career, learn to be a friend, and find some moral ground I believe in and stand firm on that motherfucker. Traveling cross country to attend music festivals clean and sober is something I share with my closest friends. It's a common bond we share and an act of love, it is not necessary, it is wanted.

The difference is that you have to draw big black X's on your hands when you leave the house, and the rest of us just enjoy the sobriety we encounter. That's why your opinions don't mean as much. I'm simply letting people know that they have inner strength that doesn't revolve around legal substance junkies and The Lord. If that's not Sober-Chella worthy, then fuck you.

    Coachella week update!

Carrying on a tradition of the last few years, our happy band of clean and sober festival attendees will be meeting daily inside the venue for 12 step meetings and support. Meeting times and places will be discussed via our email message group as the festival gets closer. We can also assist in finding others in recovery for you to share your Coachella experience with. Our meetings are open to all 12 step participants, though we are mostly made up of members of Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, and partners of AA and NA members

Special thanks to all the trolls and interested boardies who kept this thread visible. Our email group is larger than ever, letting us know that more addicts and alcoholics want this event every year. Discussion on meeting times and location will occur in the google group as soon as set times and maps are released. The website will be updated soon after.

If you want to know more please go to soberchella.com

Or email soberchella at gmail dot com

Can't wait to see you all there again
