Do they let Nikon cameras into the festival? If that's so, is it a good idea to take one? This is my first Coachella, and I want to take the best out of it but don't know if my camera could break while trying it![]()

i don't think they let people bring in DSLRs. i would only bring mine to get some good shots, but its so hot and you want to be caring as less as possible. my camera (Canon EOS 60D) is already heavy as is , but with wide angle lens, batter grip, and maybe a flash. i would not want to be caring around another 5 pounds, especially not around my neck.
Read the FAQ.
Coachella policy is "no professional cameras". What's their definition of professional? Any camera that has a lens that detaches.
ask suprefan - he knows cameras
From the FAQ: What are considered professional cameras and professional digital cameras? Any camera with a removable lens.
However, I saw tons of these all over the polo grounds last year and everyone I asked "how did you get that in?" said they were camping and security didn't care. The first security check when you got off the shuttles were incredibly thorough with the check and I saw them deny a couple people. I guess it's hit and miss.
In my experience, I don't enjoy taking a SLR to festivals anyway. I now have a policy of only allowing myself to take one picture of a band, with my phone at that. It's pretty good for a cheesy phone camera, (F2.2 at the wide end) so it does just about everything I need it to.
When I did bring a decent camera I found I was concentrating too much on taking pictures and not enjoying the show I paid for.
Exactly... I got the same answers.
4/10 - Henry Rollins
4/19-21 - Coachella Weekend 2
5/8 - Dillinger Escape Plan
5/24-26 - Summer Camp Music Festival
7/19 - Pitchfork... Only Friday. Björk!
6/1 - Twin Shadow
8/2-4 - Lollapalooza
I don't have a ton of experience, but I've never failed to get my dSLR into a festival, including Coachella. In either case, I wouldn't even attempt to sneak one in unless I had a parked car nearby that I could lock it up in in case I was denied.

I think you can bring in a Canon, but Nikon is generally not allowed. Depends on the security guy you get, I suppose.
