A lineup that includes Smash Mouth, Third Eye Blind, Sublime with Rome, Blues Travelers, Gin Blossoms, Spin Doctors and Barenaked Ladies is not any worse than a lineup that includes Zedd, AFI, Skrillex, City and Color, Capital Cities, the Naked and Famous, Foster the People and Lana Del Rey. In 15-20 years, more than half of those bands will be lucky if they can pull a state fair gig.

maybe tickets will be available cheap on craigslist the week of the event. outkast saturday night. with de la soul being the only other act I would see that day prices would need to plummet for me to consider it.

This says acts got added, but I'm not sure if there's anything notable that's new.

Any on the fence people going to Bottlerock instead of OLs after yesterday’s reveal?

I think it's getting to the point with both of these festivals where it's best to pick single days.

I've already committed to both festivals this year, but if I were doing it over again, I'd skip the 3-day passes, and probbaly just get day tickets for The Cure and Tom Petty.

Eh, if Bottlerock dies so be it, at least it might not be that crowded for its final year. Natural Selection is sure to kill off a festival in the next year or two in the bay area anyways just because of how near the saturation mark we are: Outside Lands, Treasure Island, Hardly Strictly, First City Festival (Monterey isn't that far), I think a festival just started in Sacramento like a year ago, and Bridge is pretty much a music festival, you pile that on top of an area with sooo many concert venues and arenas to choose from already somebody is bound to not make it out of the skirmish alive. That somebody might just be Bottlerock.

Well, the $199 pricing makes some sort of sense. $349 for a couple decent bands and then 10 county fair acts per day doesn't. They were stupid to think that $349 was good pricing for the lineup they were offering. I mean that's $100 over OSL which has significantly more bands per day on top of everything else it offers. But it doesn't look good for Bottlerock in 2015.

I don't understand why they didn't just take a yearlong break.

All the articles I have read have said in defense of the line-up "Line-ups usually take a year to make and we had 4 months" would it have really damaged the brand much more if they took at 2014 hiatus and came back with a solid line-up in 2015?

One article I read said they are looking at "the long term" and like it's a marathon (meaning they are okay with breaking even or losing money even) but the other 25.2 miles in a marathon don't matter if you can't get past the first mile.
