Default Odds of someone saving Fridays Headline Spot?

I'm not going to hate on Blur or Stone Roses, they were once good bands. After I pulled up their recent live sets though, can't say I'm "thrilled" to see either of them. What are the chances of there being a late addition and if so who do you think it would be? Rather see, STP, Pearl Jam, Dave Grohl Sound City, Alicia Keys, Fiona Apple, etc....

I am tempted to shit all over this thread, tell you to go fuck yourself, express sanctimonious indignation that you should suggest such a thing. Except, what you say seems very plausible to me, and I don't know if it's likely, exactly, but, you know, it could happen. A Prince thing.

    So I nominate Prince.

    or, the Rolling Stones.

    but likely? nah

Coming from such a vet on these boards, I'm surprised for you to admit it's even "plausible." If plausibility is an accurate term, do you really think it would be on Friday that the late add would be added? I feel like they already have their hands full with two headliners that night. Also, with all the grief this board is giving about Phoenix and RHCP headlining, isn't it more likely to add them on to Sat or Sun?

I would welcome a late headliner addition but it won't happen.

Especially after the festival sells out tomorrow.

this. it might have had a chance had presale not almost sold out the festival (we assume I don't think anyone actually knows) but if it sells out thattl be it

having said that I nominate Daft Punk all this news of a new label and album for spring makes too much sense

No, it doesn't make sense. They were asked, like they were every year. They are not playing.

I have no doubt they were asked just like many of the listed bands, but an act releasing material around the time of Coachella does make a lot of sense. this whole thread is just wishful thinking, no ones getting added

No. Please do not count on this, because it isn't happening.

They may be releasing material around the time of Coachella, but the band certainly would have known that before turning them down. The last time they released an album, they waited a year to tour (debuting at Coachella). Once the album is done, they still have to work on a live mix, talk with concept artists and lighting artists, actually build the set, rehearse, etc. They aren't ready. If they were, it sounds like they'd be on the poster.

Maynard only has to be away from his Arizona vineyard for 6-7 hours if he had a private plane, most of that potentially being at night.

If there were to be a headliner addition, it would be on Saturday. It's not going to happen, though.

I would LOVE to see Queens of the Stoneage headline Saturday. They're touring for Lollapalooza and have a gap from April 07, 2013 until June, so I don't see why they wouldn't be here. Plus Trent Reznor will already be there Friday so he can cameo for their new song and to have Dave Grohl there would kick aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass!!

QOTSA are not more popular than Blur, even in the States.

I did not know that, but that is why I said they should headline Saturday. I love Damon Albarn so I have no problem with him headlining Friday. On that note, can't wait for the next time Gorillaz comes. Also, never heard Stone Roses but I trust they'll be cool.

QOTSA may be bigger than Blur or Stone Roses, Blur only had one hit, two if you count Coffee and TV, but thats a stretch. Im willing to bet YYY's will have a bigger crowd this year

Yeah Yeah Yeahs will have the biggest crowd of the night, just like Sunday in '09. And it'll be a good show, and everyone will have a good time. And then we'll all come here and argue about whether or not they could ever headline.

I would bactually be mad if a "good" headliner was added to Friday or Saturday. There's already going to be so many conflicts as it is, and besides I think Blur and Phoenix are good headliners.

but if I wanted to buy into the BS, I would say:

"Sunday needs the most work. If they add someone it should be to Sunday and I would say Tool. Maynard is there anyway so his BS wine-tending absence theory is out. We already know Tool is playing Ozzfest Japan, so it's not like they refuse to do any shows this year. They are an LA band so they shouldn't be too tough to book. I say end the festival with Tool / RHCP allowing the first two third-time headliners on the same night (and both LA based bands). It wouldn't even take up that much space on the poster, which I'm sure is their primary concern."

In any case, it won't happen and doesn't need to.

I appreciate the novelty of this idea but I'd agree its BS.

As much as I would love to see Daft Punk get added to saturday night, I just don't see it happening. Due to their Demand, Daft Punk would have to play to a slient polo grounds, yet thats impossible considering curfew and the shear volume of bands on the poster.

What about Frusciante reuniting with RHCP for the final 2 shows at coachella? Would that be completely out of the realm of possibility?

It seems like GV would have tried to book Tool already for the reasons you mention. Nobody wants to see the RHCP and its likely everyone at GV knows this.

never underestimate the masses. there will be a crapload of people at the main stage to watch RHCP. this pleases me as it means more room in the tents

Not gonna happen. Coachella 2013 is a sell out. If Coachella needs to sell tickets and get the Coachella brand back up to where it was years ago they will get real headliners and it will once again be a sell out. Pre-Sale was the smartest thing they ever did.
