Oh man... First album (Gorilla Manor) is an instant classic. My buddy put it in on the drive out there in 2010 and I immediately fell in love with "Airplanes" and "Sun Hands". Their set was incredible, really early in the day on Gobi. Saw them later that year in a venue so small we could have spit on them and my cousin and her family were completely blown away as well. They are going to be in Oklahoma right before Coachella this year and we are not missing them locally or at the fest. New album tomorrow, (Hummingbird) though I will say it is more subdued than the first, but very pretty. Check them out this year, I hope they play Main, right before sunset!
COACHELLA '06, '10, '11, '12 - BONNAROO '06, '07, '09, '12 - LOLLAPALOOZA '07 - ACL '11 - WAKARUSA '11 BLUR - YYY'S - MODEST MOUSE - HOW TO DESTROY ANGELS - LOCAL NATIVES - THE XX - THE POSTAL SERVICE - SIGUR ROS - NEW ORDER - HOT CHIP - GRIZZLY BEAR - VAMPIRE WEEKEND - PRETTY LIGHTS - TAME IMPALA - DEAD CAN DANCE - JAMES BLAKE
They are great live. The new album is a little different, but it should get the same reaction live. I'm hoping they get put in a tent again.
they also do a pretty stellar cover of the Talking Heads
Caught them during their 2010 Coachella (debut?) performance for the first time ever and then again later that year at FYF.
I haven't been able to see them since then, but I'm so excited for their 2013 Coachella performance!
Currently listening to Hummingbird & i'm enjoying it very much.
You can really hear the influence of Aaron Dessner on Hummingbird - which is a good thing.
Janelle Monae, Spiritualized, Loco Dice, Cloud Nothings, Paul Kalkbrenner, Blur, El-P, Kurt Vile, Nick Cave, Sigur Ros, Moby, Grizzly Bear, The Shouting Matches, Four Tet, Modest Mouse, Japandroids, Savages, Jessie Ware, Booka Shade.
One of my top priorities on Friday (right under Modest Mouse) Hummingbird is a great natural progression for the band. Going to see them tomorrow at Amoeba and im stoked!

I've been a fan ever since I first saw them opening for White Rabbits @ the El Rey.
Really, really, REALLY excellent performers, I highly recommend, even if you only catch their last song, which is usually "Sun Hands"... it's like an anthemic jam, the only time I've ever seen everyone in the Disney Concert Hall standing up.
But all of their songs are better live, even the subdued ones. This is currently my favorite from the latest album (I wanted to very much throw my granny panties up to the Origami Vinyl loft when this happened):

Really looking forward to seeing them live. Loving this song from Hummingbird.

This was on Gorilla Manor.
Anyway, I can't wait for their set. I got to meet them on the field one year. They were with Juan from Abe Vigoda. for some reason I always run into him randomly.
I can attest to their awesomeness live. The only reason I didn't go to their amoeba show today was because fuck those lines.
I was one of them. Absolutely excellent show, great performers and the music was spot on. I Definately recommend seeing them. Their new material is just as good if not better than Gorilla Manor! Tonight they played You & I, Breakers, Wide Eyes, Heavy Feet, Columbia, and Who Knows Who Cares. I expect something similar at coachella with a couple more off Gorilla Manor

At the show last night I would say they play 60% old stuff (during which the crowd went wild) and 40% new stuff. It was actually nice to hear some of the new stuff because during some of the old stuff, the crowd was so loud singing along that it was hard to hear. The new stuff really showcased the vocals, which were fantastic! I was really impressed with how their voices were spot on as compared to the record.
I enjoyed it a ton and am looking forward to checking them out again.
Also, they still closed with Sun Hands. Crowd loved it. Assume they will do this again for Coachella.
I was there too. I've never seen them before and was really surprised by everyone singing. It was pretty cool.It was actually nice to hear some of the new stuff because during some of the old stuff, the crowd was so loud singing along that it was hard to hear.
Yeah having never seen them before I assumed it would be Airplanes, Who Know Who Cares, or Wide Eyes. Sun Hands isn't really my favorite song but seeing it live in that atmosphere made me like it much more. Also, they still closed with Sun Hands. Crowd loved it. Yeah, they were great last night. It took them a minute to catch their stride and the sound was a little off for the first couple of songs - but the last half of the show was top notch. New material sounded wonderful live...it was just really pretty music -- No gimmicks, nothing too catchy...just beautiful, emotional indie rock.

Does anyone have video recordings of local natives' set??
My friend and i were on the big screen while they were on for like a minute, and we didn't even know it! I'd love to see it if anyone has it. Please message me. thanks!
