The steroid thing and the HoF is immensely complicated for me. But fuck Pete Rose. Guys, he signed an agreement with Bart Giamatti that spelled this all out, his lifetime ban, everything. And when he talked about trying to fix things some twenty years later by finally admitting his wrongdoing, instead of showing contrition, he wrote a tell-all and kept the money.

Of course it is. And you didn't bother with a genuine answer. I thought (reasonably) that he had done something in the brawl that was being discussed, but he didn't do anything of note. Instead you were apparently referring to cheating from 5-15 years ago, in an era where every third player was cheating.

It was cheating nonetheless, and MacGwire was one of the more egregious. To claim ignorance of it is naive and stupid.

Aaron Hill back in the lineup tonight for the Dbacks! Should be a big boost for us offensively.

You should be impressed. He's no joke. But, it's still only 23 games. Offensively, baseball is a game of streaks. I hope for the Dodgers sake he can maintain. But, he'll slow down eventually, maybe because other teams figure him out, or maybe because of injury/fatigue, or because he cools down. More likely, a combination of the three.

    Lol you win.

The dude is on fire. But I still think Trout is better.

He's definitely on fire. Like someone else said above though, MLB is all about streaks. I mean, look at how Justin Upton started. Now he's batting .241 with 36 RBIs.

    Mike Trout doesn't apply:

    .316 13HR 51RBI

And his season last year was insane.

Tell that to Ted Williams. (Note: this is not a comparison. But Ted Williams was about as streak-proof a player as you could ever find.)

I don't think anyone has questioned Mike Trout. I certainly haven't.

I'm not quite sure I understand your point. Historically speaking, a ton of players have had great starts and then eventually fade away. I don't think this will necessarily happen with Puig, but it wouldn't surprise me if it did (or didn't). Regardless, he's a great story and it's a shame the rest of the team is underachieving to this extent.

I think the fire from Puig is starting to reach the rest of the team. He's not putting up all-star numbers, but Juan Uribe is having his best batting season in years. Adrian Gonzalez has been consistently productive. Since he's been back, Hanley Ramirez has shown real sense at the plate and some great force. Andre Ethier has quietly started to heat back up and become more reliable. It's too early to say with Kemp, but in the past two games he's played in he's looked better and more at ease than he had at any other point this season. The bullpen is still an issue, but Kenley Jansen has been stellar once he regained the closer position. Both Capuano and Fife are earning the 4-5 spots in the rotation.

Six games in a row is a decent showing and hopefully a sign that things are starting to turn around.

I know I just like pointing out his greatness because I'm an Angel fan.

And we were discussing Puig and I think Trout is better.

Hanley + Puig have made me actually interested in checking out the Dodgers when they're on, I like those guys.

Josh Donaldson though. The A's own.

The Dodgers are still facing the same problem everyone was talking about in spring training. They need a leader. Most people believed it should be Kemp but unfortunately he has not stepped up as a leader. I think Puig gave everyone a shot in the arm to step their game up, that's for sure but I think everyone is underestimating how big of an impact Hanley has been. This guy I feel is stepping up and taking on the leadership role. Things are finally starting to turn around and luckily no other team in the division is running away with it. Dont sleep on the Dodgers!

Homer Bailey on the Reds has a no-no through 8 2/3...

and he did it. that's his 2nd. He threw one in September last year. so the last two no-hitters in the MLB have been thrown by Homer Bailey

What is more impressive though. Bailey's no-no or Kershaw's complete game shut out at Coors? Obviously the no-no seems obvious, but really how many complete game shut outs have happened at Coors field?

Red Sox vs Padres tonight at Fenway. John Lackey looked like the 2007 version. The Sox have been Inter-league monsters.

There seems to be a dearth of Major League talent on that Pads roster. How have they won 40 games?

They played an injury riddled Dodgers squad a few times, for one. But please, Sox, beat the Padres for the rest of the series. If the Dodgers can keep winning like they have through the all-star break, it'd be really nice to overtake the whole league and go into the half on top of the NL West. Ridiculous, seeing as how two weeks ago that seemed completely out of reach.

    21, apparently.

    http://www.truebluela.com/2013/7/2/4...es-coors-field

Bailey is one of the most frustrating Reds pitchers to watch. Guy was supposedly the next big thing when he was in the minors, and ever since he came up we've been waiting for him to turn the corner and fulfill that promise. He has flashes of brilliance, and I suppose he's settled into a solid starter, but he's annoyingly streaky.

Yeah, he was lights out. After that first inning I knew it was going to be a long game for the Padres because Lackey's stuff was just incredible.
