Thread: Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine

Default Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine

Caught these guys a couple of times up here in The Bay. Jello is not everybody's cup of tea, but if you are into such things, this band is SMOKIN. The DK stuff they do is spot on and sounds very good.

The Audacity of Hype album is excellent and his best work in years..

The only drawback is if he gets 45 mins to play he will spend at least half of it ranting. (He simply wont be able to resist being on such a big stage...)

I hate how crotchety he has become, and if he can manage to not preach too much I will be there

It's been there from the beginning.. the weak Britpop headliners Friday; the rumors that DP was gonna play, that it was a done deal, then all of a sudden 'oops, no, not gonna happen'; and now the new album. It's all so obvious.

When I saw them they did Cambodia, Nazi Punks, Police Truck and Kill The Poor. With all due respect to East Bay Ray - they sounded as good or better than the DK live versions.

God, that's a great selection of DK songs.

I picture this being like Off!. Good set, too much ranting. But those rants give you time to catch your breath in the pit at least.

Besides the mabuhay gardens footage being shown in the back of the the big black sun exhibition, last saw this fat bastard at the roxy. Less talk, more music.
    Whiskey Sour

    2 oz blended whiskey
    Juice of 1/2 lemon
    1/2 tsp powdered sugar
    1 cherry
    1/2 slice lemon

Shake blended whiskey, juice of lemon, and powdered sugar with ice and strain into a whiskey sour glass. Decorate with the half-slice of lemon, top with the cherry, and serve.

Seeing him with the Melvins at the Fonda was awesome, and I figured that would be the only time I'd ever get to hear Jello doing DK songs. I'm definitely in for another round. Hopefully the kids do their research and join us for some old school slam dancing.

DK are one of those bands i never saw and cry about internally on a regular basis. The one chance i had to see them at the Olympic Auditorium i could not scrape together $10 for the ticket. i'll take these scraps. Looking forward to being there.

Kind of trippy that with Jerry Brown back in office (whod have thought) he can change the lyrics to California Uber Alies BACK to the original.

Trust me you are going to want a break from this guys "singing" voice.

I want to hear a (spoken) into for California Über Alles, if they play it, and if he still fears Jerry Brown, and "left wing fascism". My guess...his meds have changed.

If you are/were a fan of the DKs, then Jello's latest album should excite you.

I tried to enjoy the spoken word crap, but was happy when Jello decided to go back to music.

I thought the Melvins stuff was good, including the 'Arnold' uber alles update. I've always loved Mojo Nixon's work, so I appreciated that one as well.

A lot of hype (from Jello of course) for the GSM band - but I thought that the previous efforts while good, missed the mark.

Well I've had the latest album (White People and the Damage Done) for about a month now - and I listen (no BLAST IT) every day. The riffs are great, and writing is awesome and spot on!

Saw him in December with the Reverend Horton Heat and he was in great form coming out in a fez, dark glasses and cape.

Do yourself a favor and buy this album if you appreciate good punk music. I would be thrilled if he plays nothing but this album @ coachella (which other than Holiday in Cambodia, he might well do...). Going to see him in Long beach in between weekends as well.

Honestly, hasn't Jello's stuff always been half spoken word? I mean, it sure sounds like it.
