I disagree. I think a good amount of the bands on this year's lineup or any past Coachella for that matter are bands people pretend to like to seem cool. Social Distortion is not really a band I see that way at all. I think more people say they like certain hipster bands to seem cool. Social D is not a hipster band at all.

I'm not going to read through the replies, just go, why the hell not, meet some new people, get to know someone and go with them, chill with some of these people , whatever, why waste an opportunity? You never know what'll happen in the future. Last time I went back in 07 I left early during the RHCP set cause a friend of mine who went, got taken to the ER cause she got shitfaced and passed out, and I didn't find out til I picked her ass up. Worst mistake ever, think that was the last time I had the chance to see RHCP with Frusciante still in the band too.

I guess as far as this group is concerned, you're right.

Among music snobs, Social D seems downright mainstream.

But among the general public, I've noticed a lot of people pretend to like Social D because they think it makes them look cool.

I overheard this conversation at a poker table:

Some punk-looking dude was wearing a Social D shirt.

Some middle-aged guy said to him, "Oh cool, I love Social D."

Punk guy replied, "Yeah, they've always been my favorite. Which album did you think was the best one?"

Middle-aged guy said, "Uhh.... I don't really know... but... uhh... I just like their music."

Was clear that this guy couldn't name more than 2 Social D songs even with a gun to his head.

I liked their Dylan cover the first few times I heard it. Always cool to hear a new tolerable cover of older favorites. I even bought one of their albums back when buying albums was the thing to do. It's highly unlikely that I'll be at their show for more than a pass to see if I recognize what's being played. The people who are really into Social Distortion will be there, with cuffed pants and bandanas/ red lipstick/ black sunglasses/ poofed hair on. Avoid eye contact at all costs.
