Roadtrip Help

[Good Days Last]

I'm planning on taking a road trip. From Southern Utah, to San Diego and then up the coast to SF and Sacramento. From there I plan to head east to Salt Lake through Reno, and then back home.

Basically one big loop around the Utah, Nevada, and California.

The problem lies in lodgings for the nights. I'm hoping someone here has an idea to keep costs low, and to avoid as many $60 a night motels as possible.

Since gas will be pretty expensive already, I'd hate to pay for more than I need to.

Rest areas are scary.
Camping.. I fear getting dirty.

I was thinking rest areas actually. I just wouldn't want to stay anywhere where I'd get ticketed for something.

I think you're allowed to sleep for up to 8 hours in some rest areas.

I'll probably spend some nights in rest areas. a couple in motels.

road trips are fun, but alot of work to plan.
