Default Phoenix and the Daft Punk rumor

The douche-y attitudes of the people who believed that Daft Punk was going to play during the Phoenix show astounded me today. The group of people behind me chanted DAFT PUNK DAFT PUNK throughout the whole show, as if that was the only reason Phoenix was there to begin with. And as i'm walking out I hear multiple people moaning "I can't believe I wasted my time watching that", Sahara-tards stay on your side of the festival. The best part was the 5 minutes that people chanted "Daft Punk!" even after the show was over, as if they could convince them to suddenly appear at the festival. Not to say I wouldn't enjoy seeing Daft Punk, but only go to Phoenix if you want to see Phoenix.

they may be friends, but if i were phoenix, i'd be pissed. i could say they did it to themselves, but i dont think they thought the MSG show would turn into this, especially coupled with the media blitzkrieg for RAM.

I saw a girl literally weeping that Daft Punk didn't show up afterwards while walking out of the crowd. Hilarious.

OK, is it just me or is Daft Punk WAAAY overrated. I mean they're enjoyable... but of ALL the people everyone could be wishing to randomly show up and asking for every year. Why daft punk? You could be asking for roger waters or paul mccartney or metallica or a led zeppelin reunion or who knows what else. But no, you want another dj to dance to...

I'm in no way a Daft Punk superfan, but they do put on an incredible performance. They don't just DJ, and the spectacle of it is excellent. People ask for it because last time they performed it was truly spectacular.

I hope Phoenix started the rumor to boost crowd attendance. This keeps bringing to mind the grand "no 'My Girls'" pseudo-trolling by Animal Collective during 2011. Expertly played.

Honestly? R. Kelly was a better guest than Daft Punk would have been. DP is great, and they're great live, but they wouldn't have had any light show, any spectacle. R. Kelly's voice is the spectacle, and it was so weird and cool and entirely unexpected. One of my favorite guest appearances.

Agreed, and had Daft Punk showed up, people would bitch when it's over that it wasn't longer, or since they were here why didn't they just do a full set in one of the tents. It's a no win for them.

Sounds like Phoenix was put into a no-win situation. It was expected they would bring out Daft Punk, and people were upset when they didn't, but if Daft Punk did show up, the set wouldn't really be about Pheonix anymore. Kinda shitty for them, but they handled it well.

I enjoyed the R. Kelly appearance. Trololol.

The second I saw R. Kelly on the stage, I knew Daft Punk wasn't going to show up. I should've stayed at New Order and Sigur Ros for a lot longer. I personally don't care for Phoenix (nothing against them).

Daft Punk were fantastic in 2006; I would have loved to see them in the late 90s but they never came by. I thought I was over them by 2006 but I am so glad I went anyway; that set was amazing.

But it wasn't the best thing I've seen at Coachella and the obsession over them has been intense. The only thing I can think to rival it would be the obsession over Radiohead, at least until they played last year. Thankfully that has cooled off, for a while, at least.

Or not have gone to see them based upon the non-chance of a guest band to come out and play one song for 5 minutes at the very end of the set. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

The difference with the Radiohead obsession is that no one expects them to play when they're not on the lineup.

I can't believe people went to see a band they had no interest in, instead of bands they like more, based on a daft punk rumor. This is fucking absurd.
