Thread: Predict The 2014 Headliners A Year In Advance

I am an Arctic Monkeys fan, just saw them in Oakland, but anybody who suggests they can headline is delusional. They have had one sort of hit in the US. That was IBYLGOTD. Which was released in 2005. The new album has not done anything to project them upward with American audiences since the last time they played Coachella. Which was 2012. When they were billed fourth.

I would be surprised to even see them on the lineup after such a short repeat, but they won't be higher than 3rd if they are.

And before we go there: Stone Roses/Blur were legends without American hits. Way different than a contemporary band without American hits. And 1901/Listzomania were absolutely gigantic songs. Clearly GV was counting on the new album producing similarly huge records, but like KOL, it just didn't work out that way.

After their 2012 billing I'm not sure what they've done over the last 18 months to justify jumping up several spots

Hey, Fuzz. Your question would actually make sense if someone was dumb enough to suggest that BJM would/could headline Coachella. I don't think anyone has, though. Keep grasping at those straws.

EDIT* You're the same guy who thinks Cage the Elephant are headliners too right?

It's a fucking huge song, and will sound absolutely amazing at Coachella. Around sunset on the main. Before the sub-headliner. Where third/fourth billed bands tend to play.

Oh wow, and they were fifth in 2012, not fourth. My bad. Even if a couple songs on the new album find significant traction on KROQ/Live 105 type stations, they are still not going any higher than third.

Timberlake is out, bullet dodged. Not a fan, but I'm utterly perplexed by the level of coverage given to him by P4K and CoS.

March 30 – Sheffield, United Kingdom, Motorpoint Arena
April 1 – London, United Kingdom, The O2 – London
April 4 – Glasgow, United Kingdom, The SSE Hydro
April 7 – Manchester, United Kingdom, Phones 4u Arena – Manchester
April 11 – Birmingham, United Kingdom, LG Arena
April 14 – Zurich, Switzerland, Hallenstadion
April 18 – Arnhem, Netherlands, GelreDome
April 20 – Cologne, Germany, Lanxess Arena
    April 24 – Berlin, Germany, O2 World
April 26 – Paris, France, Stade de France
May 1 – Merksem, Belgium , Sportpaleis Antwerpen
May 4 – Hamburg, Germany, O2 World Hamburg
May 6 – Copenhagen, Denmark, Parken National Stadium Denmark
May 8 – Fornebu, Norway, Telenor Arena
    May 10 – Stockholm, Sweden, Tele2 Arena
May 12 – Helsinki, Finland, Hartwall Arena

They can definitely command a gigantic crowd, and it's my understanding that they do regularly across the pond. I have no doubts they could pull off a headlining show, just that they are nowhere near that big in America, and the audience wouldn't really know what's up. Read also: Jamiroquai

Lolla South America might drop names from their lineup early, indication who's active in SPring. Euro festivals headliners or something like Depeche Mode announcing summer 2014 gigs will throw up some more hints in the upcoming weeks.

All for Oingo Boingo and AC/DC. Cher is what is throwing this off.

Saw Arctic Monkeys in LA yesterday. What an amazing show... just a great rock band.

After seeing them live this tour and watching their Glastonbury set online, I really hope they have the chance to play a proper sub-headliner or third name main stage set after sunset this year. I watched the 2012 Coachella set from my office on the stream (different from being there, I know...) and something just really seemed off and not a proper performance. I hope they can make up for it this year, just like their '13 Glastonbury headlining gig seemed to be so much better than '07.
