What makes anyone think that NIN will headline Coachella, outside of NIN touring live in 2013? The tour ends before 2014, at which point Trent will probably either take a break, start working on new material, or take HTDA for another spin. His options sort of make Coachella seem like a major stretch. I mean... do you really want OSLs previous year leftovers anyway? Give Paul and NIN a break. Let them come to us when it's time. Unless NIN is going to open for... DAFT PUNKZZZZ.

November 8th at Staples is 5 months before Coachella and 2 months before the festival lineup drops, so that time frame has logic. Though I wonder how Trent/GV will make people excited about NIN for their 3rd trip to California on the tour unless do something unique on the production end of things or maybe some guests. or a exclusive QOTSA-->NIN booking

Festival headliners have always been incestuous between promoters.

Couple months back Eric Avery more or less said the Nails tour will run through much of 2014:

Avery wrote. "I just got home from a year of heavy travel with Garbage, the idea of leaving town for another year and a half, and with all the intensity that Nails demands . . . fortunately my friend Trent understands all this and appreciated my pulling the plug now instead of deep into 2013 and 14."

It wont be a OSL leftovers because it will be a different stage set up and setlist. Its been Nine Years since Nine Inch Nails played coachella which that 2005 set was fantastic!.

As big as everyone makes Daft Punk to be they didnt sell out shows if I remember correctly in 2006 or 2007.I remember losing my coachella ticket the night before waiting to get into the camping area at coachella 2006 and only sunday was sold out at the box office.

Pretty sure the New York stop on the Alive tour, which was in a minor league baseball stadium, was sold out. Can't speak to the rest of the tour.

All North American venues sold well, though couple were on the small side like Seattle or the gig near Toronto. I think they can do 20-25 arena gigs in North America, easy.

BTW, McCartney also had walk up tickets available at Coachella.

I dont think the LA Sport Area did...and if it did it was the week of.Even if they were sell shows out it was a lingering one.

NIN are playing a lot of festivals this year, which makes Coachella look that much more likely, though it looks like they're transitioning from festivals to arenas more-so on the second half of the tour. I just don't see how Pearl Jam, Lil Wayner, and Daft Punkzz will be able to share a headlining spot with NIN. XD

Butbutbut I thought McCartney sold out that Friday? Three day passes may have been available walking up, but I was getting $300 and a blowjob/ old fashioned for each extra Friday ticket I got rid of. Shits were scarce.

NIN are NOT headliners at all those festivals and Coachella would be their THIRD California visit in 9 months. Throw in modest turnouts at OSL/Lolla and GV wanting to make sure to move 180,000 passes after a slow pre-sale and my automatic optimism starts to fade. A unique stage/setlist/guest/sub-headliner will make them a solid headliner.

Also, their arena set up apparently does not work outdoors. We'll see.

Pearl Jam doing 2 nights at the Sports Arena in LA the last week of November makes them a long shot, if not totally ruling them out.

Plus, their new album hasn't even dropped yet. So the setlist for Coachella could be significantly different than Lolla's. Though that staging and production was top notch.

Well they are playing the South American Lolla's next year so I don't think it will be an issue

It was a slow pre-sale? Just asking, I have no recollection of how it went.

I do know that even though a lot of people on the board (and myself) were happy with this past year's lineup, most everyone I talked to IRL was very disappointed post-2012.

They are already doing 3 new songs. Exactly how many more are you expecting to be played at a 2014 festival?

Tent camping passes were still available just before the recent pre-sale closed down. The past couple years they were always the first to go, and usually gone with a couple minutes as there is only several thousand available. I always noticed the hotel package sell outs were WAAAY behind the same time last year.

There's threads in the passes forum here that go into further detail.

They only did a 20 songs set at OSL. No way NIN do 8-12 new songs for ANY future festival appearance. Glancing at several of their past festival appearances going back to 2000, 6 songs from the new album seems to be the max.

Hopefully the arena shows get longer shows and setlists focused away from casual fans.

Why not? They're just gonna plan their tour around those dates so I don't see the problem.

For every dewy-eyed post out of you, a Jonas Brothers video will be posted in response. You have been warned.

(This is the first time I've had to listen to one of their songs. Do us all a favor, and dry those eyes babe.)
