The poster would look a lot better with Beck as the co headliner.
If Beck was on top line with someone else I feel like MBV would be potentially a very solid top line companion....

Leonard Cohen a couple of years back did an outdoor stage performance. Far from headlining and the man can sell out the O2 in London and similar venues no problem.

...and Biffy Clyro played in the middle of the day this year while they headline festivals in Europe. Apples and oranges. Where does Leonard Cohen play here? Theaters and clubs. Hence, why he was on the outdoor. Justin Timberlake sells out arenas here, and is embarking on a stadium tour. I'd just think you'd be hard pressed to find any artist who could play stadiums in the U.S. who, at the same time, wouldn't headline Coachella (without the need for a co-headliner).

Please name the club Cohen has played a full set in the past 20 years. I don't think he's EVER done a full show in a club since he was a well known author/poet who moved into music.

There's North America Arenas he's played THREE times since 2009. Some crazy ticket prices as well.

It's 5 months out which makes him a strong possibility. There's a really weird Texas-LA-Texas routing in there which should add to the speculation.

I wouldn't place much stock in billing order. Remember Soundgarden getting higher billing than Lady Gaga at Lolla 2010? Mum ford could sell upwards of 10x as many tickets as Beck in many North American market right now.

5-6 US arena shows in late 2012. Plus he's doing double nights in VERY big Theaters that would fill an arena.

Bjork and Jack White(even the stripes) wish they could do Cohen type business.

Terrific. I don't give a shit. All I was doing was making the point that comparing the venues someone like Cohen plays to the type of venues someone like Timberlake plays is absolutely absurd, which it remains.

Why am I arguing with Bumblebee? I need my fucking head examined.

I get what you're saying, Larry. I wasn't comparing JT and Cohen. I was just responding to your comment and Cohen was a name that first popped into my head.

No, I get it. It's not just what size arenas an act plays, but where they play, what kind of crowd fills their shows, etc. Your point was valid. Bumblebee is still an idiot.

You said Cohen plays Clubs. Not true - probably for his entire career.

You said Cohen has never done an arena in the US. Not True.

So with talks of a possible Oasis reunion next year for the 20th anniversary of Definitely Maybe, could they possibly headline? I hate to use the "Stone Roses headlined so anybody can" excuse but I think that actually could realistically apply here.

Oasis should hold off on the reunion until they can celebrate the 20th anniversary of Be Here Now in 2017.

At this point, I think too many people are gonna be disappointed if Daft Punk doesn't perform, as opposed to being happy if they do

^ absolutely. I think people are expecting way too much with DP. Sure they will put on a great performance but like someone else said in another thread it's not going to be the once in a lifetime show they put on back in 2006. That will never be duplicated (crowd, vibe, set) IMO

Is Mumford on the Polo grounds 10 months after playing Glen Helen likely? Plus the 2 Hollywood Bowl shows in November 2012.

While these are both true, Oasis were definitely much more popular in the US than both The Stone Roses and Blur. Goldenvoice didn't seem too concerned about ticket sales for that billing, they seem to book that just for the legacy of both acts, a very solid 1-2 punch in terms of British bands. If the other headliners are good enough draws, I don't see why they wouldn't give them a headlining slot on one of the days. Size of arenas played, whenever the played, album sales and other numbers don't seem to faze Goldenvoice. If they believe they can headline, they'll make them a headliner.

Also, booking Atoms For Peace on the same day or even co-headlining would be perfect.

It appears that oasis 2008 did business enough warrant arenas in a handful of US markets. The Vancouver show I saw was 10,000 strong.

I still think the following 5 names would have to be doubled up on the top line: oasis/Bjork/Beck/Jack W/Yorke

Speaking of Yorke, if they book him in 2014 it would be 5 high profile visits to LA in 5 years:
    AFP Coachella 2010
    RH Haiti charity Fonda 2010
    RH Coachella 2012
    AFP 2013
    AFP Caochella 2014.

Isn't that Black Keys level oversaturation?

Well, obviously Black Keys oversaturation doesn't bother Goldenvoice so I don't think that really matters. I think Goldenvoice cares more about their availability than trying to be careful and not overdo Yorke in LA.

Actually, on second thought Red Hot Chili Peppers will be recording a new album starting in September and Atoms For Peace have several dates afterwards. Still, studio time could get in the way for Flea to do Atoms For Peace next year but who knows.
