The Three O'Clock. From L.A.'s paisley underground, this reunion's a must-see if you're a sucker for indie pop. Pure cheese and I love it. Would sound pleasant inside a tent during the afternoon.

Electronic Duo TNGHT, is a collaborative effort composed of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice. Helping fuel the bass heavy, snare ridden, trap sound dominating the electronic airwaves the past year with their 2012 self-titled EP (one of the best releases of the year). TNGHT's sound is filled with high energy synth melodies, backed by 808 kickdrums snare rolls and hi hats. Drawing inspirations from southern hip hop heavyweights such as Three Six Mafia, Cash Money Records, UGK, and Gucci Mane, and infusing it with an electronic twist. They are going to tear apart whatever tent they are placed in. Do not miss.

The Airborne Toxic Event formed in Los Feliz, CA in 2006 and released their first self titled full length album in 2008. Their second showing was with All at Once in 2011, and they have an upcoming release entitled Such Hot Blood. They released a Live Album recorded at Walt Disney Concert Hall in 2010. 2 of the 5 members can play multiple string instruments which really adds to their rock sound. They have played Coachella in the past and have also been booked to play at SXSW this year.

Do they play multiple string instruments at the same time and have they been booked for any other festivals this year?

    James McCartney

James McCartney is a British singer/songwriter who has been recording since 2010.

He plays guitar, mandolin, bass guitar, drums and keyboards.

Some of his influences include Radiohead, Nirvana and the Cure.

Oh yeah, he shares the same first name with his dad, who used to be in this group called the Beatles.

That's a rad British accent on that band formed in Los Feliz, CA. Also I'd like to thank the keyboardist for over-accentuating her tongue when shoving it at the camera..

Zane Lowe is a well known BBC 1 radio DJ/host and is potentially the sole reason why the Gnarls Barkley track "Crazy" garnered as much success as it did. He went on a DJ tour with Skrillex last year and it looks like they had a good time and some fucking put your mother fucking hands in the air and grind your teeth kiddos wholesome kind of fun:

Oh, he's DJed in the Sahara before, ending his set with the timeless track "Sandstorm," which instantly became one of the most memorable Sahara experiences in Coachella history. Also wonderful, his name is Lowe and he asked people to "get low." Wordplay and epic track selection? Who knows what kind of magic he'll drop on us this year?

Airborne Toxic Event were the subject of one of the great Pitchfork demolition jobs of all-time. They even wrote an open letter defending themselves afterwards.

Well deserved. That is, absolutely, one of the most unoriginal albums I've ever heard. Every single song has a riff that opens it where you go "hey, isn't this just ___________ ?"

So, are there any good folk & country acts on the lineup?

Note: If any of you schmucks say Lumineers, Father John Misty, or shitty Monsters & Mensomethingorother, you likely have bad taste in folk music and should never post on the subject again.

^ Shovels and Rope, Lord Huron, Skinny Lister are on my list to look into.

Although at first glance, watching grass grow may be more stimulating that Shovels and Rope.

I've seen them twice. They're kind of a neo-psychedelic group with some 60s pop backing. I suppose you could find folk in there somewhere, but it's not what they are at all. Father John Misty has more folk in his sound, and he's pretty much a 70s rock crooner.

They're a group that, on first listen, did nothing for me. However, they seemed to keep getting caught in my head, and when I saw them live I was very impressed. Impressed enough to see them again.

    Rodriguez

Rodriguez is an incredible singer/ songwriter from the 1970’s who never made it anywhere. Until recently, that is, when his humbling and inspiring story was unearthed and shown to the world in the fantastic documentary Searching For Sugar Man

Rodriguez was discovered in Detroit in the early 1970’s and was quickly snatched up by A&M records because of his undeniable talent. I believe it was either his label rep or one of his producers that claimed back when he was signed that he was going to be “the defining voice of this generation.” However, his debut album Cold Fact failed to move any copies, despite it being an exceptional album from start to finish. No one could understand why, so they tried again and released his second album Coming From Reality, which once again failed to move copies and Rodriguez was dropped from label and he went back in obscurity.

However, unknown to Rodriguez or his record label, he became a national superstar and folk hero in South Africa of all places. Somehow Rodriguez’ music made it over to South Africa and he exploded in popularity. In fact, his popularity was compared to that of Elvis Presley and The Beatles. Folk music never really broke out in South Africa, so when they heard Rodriguez it was, to many in the nation, revolutionary. His song became anti-apartheid anthems and he became a folk hero along with it. However, no one of South Africa ever searched for Rodriguez because of the rumours of his suicide. Meanwhile, Rodriguez worked in construction and general labour in Detroit.

That is, until a long time fan and musicologist decided to search out how he died. Upon their quest, they discovered he was alive. When news broke, South Africa erupted in excitement and skepticism. It would be like if we were told Elvis had risen from the dead. Rodriguez himself was skeptical too, but eventually agreed to do a South African tour. He played 6 shows in South Africa, all to sold out crowds with roughly 10,000+ people in attendance.

A few years ago, a Swedish film maker decided to make a documentary on this incredible story and now, finally, Rodriguez, his music and his incredible story, is gaining traction around the world. His music is timeless, he spirit never broke, and he now has the attention he always deserved. While his fame is new, and his story is inspiring, it is heartbreaking to think he may only have a few years left in him, as he is getting pretty old after all. Rodriguez is not an act to be missed this Coachella.

“Sugar Man” from his 1970 album Cold Fact

“Crucify Your Mind” from David Letterman this past August.

Trash Talk has become one of the willing ambassadors of this proud and boisterous musical sect. They've been cutting their teeth on the road with Fucked up the last couple of years, and have developed into a marquee live act. Perhaps not the best entry level act, for those interested in getting into the genre, but I'd still encourage those individuals to take part in their set.

This, I dig. But they should really find a drummer who can keep better time, that guy is shit.

I've compiled the bands on Friday and put in a comment and two songs from each one. It's only rock, and loosely defined. Only the top four rows so far, but if there's someone you want me to include, let me know.

    It's also in my signature.

What Chris said. His albums, especially Cold Fact, are timeless pieces of music and it is heartbreaking he never really received the recognition he deserved. With that being said, watch Searching For Sugar Man. It is an incredibly well done documentary and a very rewarding watch. I would be amazed if anyone saw the film and decided to skip his set.

I enjoyed the Zane Lowe write up.

That was insane when that fool dropped "Sandstorm."

Such a rare track that no djs ever play.
