Ghost is a "metal" band from Sweden. I put metal in quotes because they don't play the growly, chuggy music most people now associate with metal. Instead, they look back to the oldest forms of metal, as crafted by Black Sabbath, King Diamond and other killer british bands with bases in blues and hard rock from the 60s. They also sing almost exclusively about Satan, dress in ridiculously awesome costumes and write songs that you'll remember long after you forget about their appearance.

I'd love to be there this year, but it's not looking likely unless I get work beforehand. As it stands I just can't afford it, but I'm a fan of the lineup. I've also seen a majority of the bands I'd like to see, so it wouldn't be a huge loss for me. Still a bummer.

For Nick Cave I'd start with Let Love In. He has a massive great catalogue though. Grinderman only has two albums so just grab the first one and enjoy.

Hey everyone say hi to Disclosure, one of the best artists on the lineup. These two young brothers are bringing back groovy fucking dance music that's actually pretty popular. Please go see them because it will be the biggest dance party of the festival, trust. Make sure to get The Face EP and the Latch single (but really every track these guys have done is FIRE).

OK. Now, meet CASSY goddess of deep minimal and techno. When I saw her name on the lineup I had a visible freak out and wondered if it was actually her. This is one of the BEST techno bookings this year bar none. She will throw the fuck down; I hope it's late night at a new, good-electronic stage, but I'd even take a midday Sahara set. Seriously, this booking shows me GV knows what the fuck is up. Maybe a few years late but so so appreciated.

Lee "Scratch" Perry is a 77 year old Jamaican guy who first invented reggae, then invented dub. (that might be a slight exaggeration). Probably more well known as a producer (he helped Bob Marley craft the sound he got rich on) but has had some noteable songs as a singer as well.

The thing is if you like reggae you already know this guy and if you don't then you still won't care, so I'll stop there.

The Selecter are another one of those 2 Tone ska revival bands from the late 70s british midlands, but they never got anywhere near the popularity of The Specials or Madness (or even the English Beat). Their first album is quite good though and worth listening to.

Welcome the king of disco, the legendary DJ Harvey. If you have been to one of his Sarcastic Disco parties you will know that his crates are full of deep disco cuts. He routinely spins for 7-8 hours straight and really knows how to pace a party of that length. Day or night this is going to be one hell of a dance party.





He also produces under the name Locussolus

YOUTH LAGOON - Beautiful blend of atmospheric and eerie elements. Part shoe gaze, electronica, and fragility...Early 20's frontman Trevor Powers' unhappiness makes for great art.

First record was The Year of Hibernation in 2011, and on 3/5/12 the new Wonderous Bughouse releases.

Saw YL live at The Echo last year and was so impressed. Very much looking forward to his set on Friday, 4/12.
