Super excited to see MM for the first time. What kind of stuff do they usually play these days? My favorite era for them is pre-Moon and Antarctica but I really love it all.

Modest Mouse has on and off shows from what I've gathered. They're either terrible, or fucking awesome. Their Sasquatch set in 2011 was the latter. Lots of Lonesome Crowded West and The Moon & Antarctica happened.

Saw them open for REM in 2008 or 2009, they weren't that great. That being said, I will be giving them another shot at Coachella.

Johnny Marr is also on that day so I wonder if he will play with them? Hope so. FYI, Johnny Marr= rhythm guitarist for The Smiths.

Like peeps have said - they're hit or miss. I think they hit more often now than miss.

Anyone see their Gov. Ball show last year?

This 100% From opening with shit luck-til the end-they were on point. I'll try and catch some of their set, depending on how they sound. When they're bad, they're really bad.

Even when they're "off" it's still an interesting show. The nice thing about Modest Mouse is that they're sort of an artsy band that has achieved pop status, so they get billed high on the lineup but can still get away with being a little bit weird.

at Outside Lands 2009, they were very underwhelming...it almost seemed like isaac was pissed off, stopped giving a fuck, and played a half-ass, strategically soft set. they even had a huddle before the last song...and ended with "paper thin walls" after not playing literally any of their fan favorites... it was my first time seeing them, and i was just kinda let down. the roadie even dropped BOTH of the second drummers maracas, after he threw them up in an indie-rock-star fashion

I wonder if they'll be closing Outdoor Theater? I don't think the Main stage will be: MM -> YYYs -> Blur -> the Stone Roses

8/19 Run the Jewels @ Sir Stage 37
8/21 The Clean @ Rough Trade
    8/21 J Rocc/GE-OLOGY @ Panther Room
    8/23 Bad Brains/Trash Talk @ Afropunk
    8/23 Kevin Saunderson @ TBA
    8/24 D'Angelo @ Afropunk

YES! Spitting Venom is one of my favorite live songs by any band ever. But like everyone else has already stated, I've seen this guys be completely underwhelming before. I'll definitely check them out again though.

My best guess is that the first 4 close the Main, with the Outdoor evening slate T&S, Lou, Beach House and BofH, not necessarily in that order.

This thread has videos and songs and decidedly less cunting around.

First time I saw Modest Mouse was at Lollapalooza 07 and they were excellent! Then I saw them open for REM in 08 and it was alright... then I watched their webcast from Orion Music and More festival last year and it looked painful. So.... hit or miss id have to say as well.
    Upcoming Shows:
    Kasabian/Bo Ningen: 10/1 @ Metro

I won't be surprised if we hear some new material. They dropped a couple new songs into a show I downloaded from Montclair in July.
