Most music geeks even think these dudes have one really good album, which isn't really that far off the truth to begin with. There is absolutely no reason these guys should be headlining the "best" music festival in America.
I am not talking about the average person. People who are apparently going to Coachella have not heard of them. You would expect these people to have enough knowledge about guitar music to be aware of them, considering they will be spending quite a bit of money to go to a festival which is full of guitar bands. Even my mum has heard of them FFS.

They don't suck live. The band are all good players (maybe a little sloppy). And the songs are great. But... Ian Brown can struggle at times. He's definitely better in the studio. Anyway, Coachella will work its magic and make this one memorable.

Oh, and just one album? The second one's good too.

    Oblig...

So Brooklyn Vegan is saying the Stone Roses have played the US before with all 4 band members.

With the drummer leaving soon after the release of Second Coming, I'm pretty sure Coachella is their first ever North America show with the classic lineup.

As far as solo tours, Ian Brown might be a decade since playing the US(2005?), Squire the late 90's(Seahorses 1997?), Mani(2009 east coast US, 2003 Coachella both with Primal Scream) and maybe Reni's possibly never even been to the US. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yea, I didn't think Reni ever made it stateside. I saw them with Robbie Maddix.

The set list you posted looks about right. I do remember Ian struggling mightily with pitch in Ten Storey Love Song. But I also remember John Squire really killing Love Spreads. Think I'll put that one on!

Side note- their show was part of my bachelor party. Forgot about that up to now. Fun times!

Oh man, I wonder why your English mother knows an English band that was relevant when she was much younger?

And weren't you Englishmen up in arms when Jay-Z was headlining Glastonbury? And he was actually still relevant when he did. 18-24 year olds in Southern California are not rocking out to Happy Mondays.

    my track record with them:

Ian Brown solo Golden Greats tour in LA (El Rey? His amp went out causing colossal delays after just a couple songs. It was god awful)
The Seahorses at Canes in San Diego with Mansun opening
Primal Scream at Nokia with Brian Jonestown opening

Dream come true seeing the classic lineup together. "This is the one we've waited for..."

El Oh Fucking El. The Hollywood High School Gymnasium. That is the greatest, most telling detail of them all.

It's a classic that is standing the test of time.

I sure wish they'd done more with their legacy. It shouldn't have been that hard. But between the drugs, bickering/Ian's assholishness and Squire's broken collarbone, there was enough fuel for a downfall.

I am a fan of The Stone Roses and the Happy Mondays, however I much prefer the Happy Mondays. I am sure the two bands get compared a lot being that both were huge pillars of the Madchester scene. My question for The Stone Roses fans out there is do you prefer them over the Happy Mondays, and if so, why? One of the main reasons I prefer Happy Mondays is because of the prominent acid house elements in their songs, in comparison to The Stone Roses, who utilized some acid house elements but not to the extent that the Mondays did. Also another question I have is do you feel that The Stone Roses were more influential than the Happy Mondays? I ask this question in order to potentially justify their headliner status. I admit I was very surprised to see they received such high billing, considering the Mondays were a 3rd/4th name billing on the second line of the 2007 poster.

    This is actually true.

Reni left before the '95 tour, so these will be the first U.S. shows, with Reni, ever.

24 Hour Party People is great and all, but it was more about New Order. Roses have their own film, starring Khaleesi, so Happy Mondays can suck it.

I'm almost certain that the Hollywood High performance was cancelled, to be replaced by a show on the same date at the Casino on Catalina Island, but this was cancelled too and the original line-up never before performed in the US.
