Even though I expected the Roses, I can't believe they're headlining. I expected an afternoon set (ala Kaiser Chiefs/Noel Gallagher) or worse a small tent show (Suede in the Mojave). SO FUCKING EXCITED FOR THIS!

I'm surprised at the billing (who isn't?), but I'm excited as well.

The most common thing I've heard from my friends since the lineup dropped: who the hell are The Stone Roses? Best advice I could give them was to listen to "I Am The Resurrection" and not stop listening until after the instrumental outro. If you're not sold after that then I can't help you.

As I reconnect with both albums, I think the long, ethereal intro and outro jams to Ten Storey Love Song are also defining moments for them. Second Coming does not have the overwhelming list of songs as the first album, but I really like their sound on it.

I like The Stone Roses and their one classic album. At least their setlist won't be disappointing.

But they're going to suck live, right? Because that's all I've heard, is that they suck live and that Ian Brown can't sing for shit.

They don't suck live. The band are all good players (maybe a little sloppy). And the songs are great. But... Ian Brown can struggle at times. He's definitely better in the studio. Anyway, Coachella will work its magic and make this one memorable.

Oh, and just one album? The second one's good too.

    Oblig...

So Brooklyn Vegan is saying the Stone Roses have played the US before with all 4 band members.

With the drummer leaving soon after the release of Second Coming, I'm pretty sure Coachella is their first ever North America show with the classic lineup.

    June 1990
    21 – Chicago, USA. (Cancelled).
22 – New York, USA. (Cancelled).
29 – Hollywood High School Gymnasium, California, USA (Cancelled).
30 – San Francisco, USA. (Cancelled)

    May 1995

14 – Midtown Music Festival, Atlanta, USA.
17 – Gaston Hall, Washington DC, USA.
18 – Marine Terminals, Toronto, Canada.
20 – Manhattan Ballroom, New York, USA.
21 – Avalon Club, Boston, USA.
22 – Webster Hall, New York, USA.
24 – The Trocadero, Philadelphia, USA.
26 – Riverport Amphitheatre (Pointfest 3), St Louis, USA.
27 – World Music Theatre, Chicago, USA.
29 – Palladium, Los Angeles, USA.
31 – Fillmore, San Francisco, USA.

    NYC setlist 1995
    ----------------
    I Wanna Be Adored
    She Bangs The Drums
    Waterfall
    Ten Storey Love Song
    Daybreak
    Breaking Into Heaven

    Tightrope
    Elizabeth My Dear
    I Am The Resurrection
    Good Times
    Love Spreads
    Fools Gold
    Made Of Stone

As far as solo tours, Ian Brown might be a decade since playing the US(2005?), Squire the late 90's(Seahorses 1997?), Mani(2009 east coast US, 2003 Coachella both with Primal Scream) and maybe Reni's possibly never even been to the US. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yea, I didn't think Reni ever made it stateside. I saw them with Robbie Maddix.

The set list you posted looks about right. I do remember Ian struggling mightily with pitch in Ten Storey Love Song. But I also remember John Squire really killing Love Spreads. Think I'll put that one on!

Side note- their show was part of my bachelor party. Forgot about that up to now. Fun times!

El Oh Fucking El. The Hollywood High School Gymnasium. That is the greatest, most telling detail of them all.

    This is actually true.

Reni left before the '95 tour, so these will be the first U.S. shows, with Reni, ever.

All the shenanigans and controversy surrounding this band makes me want to see them now, barring any big conflict.

I'm almost certain that the Hollywood High performance was cancelled, to be replaced by a show on the same date at the Casino on Catalina Island, but this was cancelled too and the original line-up never before performed in the US.
