Okay, so there's no Hooky, and who knows what they have left in the tank, but still: fucking New Order
For the interested newbees...
It takes a fast car, lady,
To lead a double life.
Saw them at the Greek Theater last year and they are a MUST see. Energy was incredible.
So excited for New Order! I'd kill for them to play Chosen Time and Dream Attack.
Where's Underworld and Mew? Make it happen GV.
New Order has plenty left in the tank. Seen them in Oakland and LA and they were super good!!

I have had many good and some bad experiences at the Fox. It sounded amazing when I saw New Order, but not so much for the Smashing Pumpkins.
the sound at the fox is always bass heavy and reverberating. just about every other major venue sounds much better... the fillmore, gamh, warfield. i'll take the smaller venues over the fox too. every time i've been to the fox it sounds the same and my friends have had the same experiences. at one show i attended, some guy next to me even went to the sound board to complain.
i don't know why some people don't pick up on it. maybe it's preference, maybe it's hearing ability, maybe it's experience. who knows? i thought the sound in the gobi last year suffered from similar problems and my friends agreed. my first thought was, "is the fox theater sound guy running this tent too?".

So here's the weekend 1 setlist. Looks great but no Age of Consent.... Really hoping we get that one next weekend.
I was right up front and to me it sounded great. The crowd made the show everyone was going nuts and they fed off it! The greek show was better cause of the song ad's and me getting to meet Bernard! Can't wait to see them with Johnny Marr the night before Coachella in Santa Barbara!
1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2013
Been listening to them a lot lately, pleasantly surprised that they are on the lineup. Definite can't miss for me!
They were my must see in 2005 and they sorta blew (their setlist sucked), but their latest shows (at least according to the bootlegs I've listened to and videos I've watched) are pretty kick ass and blow away what I saw in 2005. Even though there is no Hooky now, at least Gillian Gilbert is back, and they're playing most of their good 80's shit...Age of Consent, Temptation, Perfect Kiss, 586, True Faith, Your Silent Face, Blue Monday etc....should be an awesome can't miss set.
Typical set from the fall:
01 Elegia
02 Crystal
03 Ceremony
04 Age of Consent
05 Love Vigilantes
06 Isolation
07 Here to Stay
08 Your Silent Face
09 Bizarre Love Triangle
10 5 8 6
11 True Faith
12 The Perfect Kiss
13 Blue Monday
14 Temptation
ENCORE:
15 Atmosphere
16 Shadowplay
17 Transmission
18 Love Will Tear Us Apart
Incredible set list, but why doesn't Technique get any love?
I've been reading a bunch of interviews with both Bernard and Hook. Hook really comes off like the bad guy no matter whose side you hear. It sounds like the rest of them may have done some shady legal things to get control of the trademark, but that was AFTER he just went and announced they were breaking up without consulting anyone else. He just seems really bitter.
The worst was that bit where he said the new bass player was miming to a backing track. "You see, he's playing low and the track is up high". Apparently it's a song with 2 bass parts and Hook used to do the same thing because it's impossible to play live otherwise.
I have hopes for a good show because it really sounds like they are having fun again. Reminds me of the Pixies comeback shows, just go out, play the hits, enjoy being appreciated. (& profit). But Bernard is just the worst frontman ever, so I won't be expecting that much. Just give me a good setlist.
Por please 2014: Sleigh Bells, Friendly Fires, Depeche Mode, NIN, Cut Copy, Empire of the Sun, The Naked and Famous, Mindless Self Indulgence, Wavves and FIDLAR

05 was a let down. But I saw them in October and it was awesome. So much energy. Great setlist. A must see this year.
I didn't get into them in time for 2005 and regretted missing them for several years (even though the general feeling was that they weren't very good). So glad I finally get a chance to make it right. If they close out with tracks 11-14 of menik's list, I'm going to go out of my head with glee.
All they need to play is (assuming they'll get 60mins):
Bizarre Love Triangle
Your Silent Face
True Faith
586
Age of Consent
The Perfect Kiss
Temptation
Blue Monday
Love Will Tear Us Apart (because we all know they'll throw one JD song in there)
and it'll be the set of the weekend
(I would hope for more rare stuff like The Village, Chosen Time, Confusion, Lonesome Tonight, but I won't hold my breath for that)
