I am so bummed. He was in my top five not to miss. This is not a perfect day.
He sold his soul for a shot at fame
Catchphrase and wigs and the jokes are lame...
Here was Lou onstage 2 weeks ago, nothing appears out of the ordinary. Laurie Anderson still has her 3 April shows on sale so it doesn't appear to be some kind of extreme medical emergency.
Acts that have cancelled Coachella:
Future Sound of London
Jimmy Eat World
We are Scientists
New Young Pony Club
Hercules and Love Affair
And more I am not thinking of it.
So I expect bands that I want to see to cancel Coachella, I don't know if it's just bad luck or they have a bad booking agent(s), not sure.
There are plenty of bands that have played Coachella that SHOULD have been dropped but didn't.
Clipse in '07 (or maybe it was '08?)
there's a virtually complete list of dropped acts here.
Why don't they just get Metallica to play the set without Lou, amIrite?
Would you say the board has a penchant for negativity ?
Super bummed. This was the act that I was most looking forward to this year. Thought it might be my last/only change to get to see him perform live.
I am of the opinion that Lou's performance would have been hit or miss but I'm still sad he won't be there. Iggy Pop or Bowie would suffice as a replacement but that shit isn't going to happen.
Oh look it stopped snowing...
I would definitely like a better explanation than, "Unavoidable complications.".
To me that sounds like a bunch of BS.
I think Coachella sound be renamed to "Unavoidable complications"...
That fits it better than Coachella Music and Arts Festival.
Lou Reed has cancelled a number of US tour dates, including his performances at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival next month.
The former Velvet Underground man was due to play a handful of West Coast shows around his festival performances, but now all shows have been pulled.
As well as his appearances at Coachella Weekend One (April 12) and Weekend Two (April 19), Reed has cancelled appearances at San Francisco's Warfield (April 14), the Monterey Golden State Theatre (April 16) and Los Angeles' Orpheum (April 17).
Promoters Goldenvoice have said that the LA show has been cancelled "due to unavoidable complications."
Earlier this month, Lou Reed surprised fans in New York when he made an appearance at a playback of his seminal album 'Transformer'.
Fans of Reed had gathered in a New York bar for a playback of the LP on March 4 and were shocked to see a familiar figure in the room.
The vinyl listening session was the first of its kind in New York, with organisers High50.com having enjoyed success with the idea in London.
High50.com founder and creative director Robert Campbell said Reed appeared to listen to the album, before later discussing with fans the album's best moments and wider cultural significance.
"Lou Reed is a hero of mine and of many of our readers, so for him to unexpectedly attend our first US event was a rare treat," he said.

Learn it. Know it. Live it.
Superfan will be in front of the Fonda masturbating furiously to a photo of him taking a photo of a band. Set is from 8:05 to approximately 8:05:15. Guest list only.
The Cribs canceled, I think that was 2009. Whenever the volcano in Iceland was.
Lou Reed randomly cancelled gigs in Barcelona and New Jersey in late 2012 without a tangible reason made public.
If he, by some miracle from the heavens, plays "I Found A Reason" or "Pale Blue Eyes" I'll cry and that'll make Coachella for me
