I remember all the sounds he plays, though. It makes me feel good to remember those times and relive them. The same way Disclosure makes me feel good about my memories

All I know is booka shade , simian mobile disco , and disclosure put on the best dance sets of the weekend last year. This is going to be good.

Agreed although I'd say Booka Shade and Simian Mobile Disco were more impressive than Disclosure. Booka Shade is an a whole other level live, but then again they're had time to work on their live show. Dub FX was surprisingly good as well.

Temples re-creates the 60s Liverpool sound pretty flawlessly, but does that mean they're nothing special? I don't think so, it just means they re-create that sound perfectly.
Temples are absolutely nothing special. There's nothing special about replicating a bygone sound without imparting any new twist on it, and there's nothing special about bland mimicry.

    How old are you?

Were you even listening to UK garage back when it was big? Because that's why I dig Disclosure because I also grew up listening to MJ Cole, Artful Dodger, Wookie, and Zed Bias in the late 90s (I'm 29 FYI).

The fact that these kids can produce a sound that pays homage to MJ Cole or Zed Bias in spite of their age is quite remarkable all on its own.

If they keep it up, they will dethrone Craig David as the last UKG artist that made mainstream success in the US 13 years ago.

So I take it you feel the same about Tame Impala or Cut Copy as well?

Booka Shade is dope, but fuck GV for having them clash against New Order last year. I kept having to run back and forth between the Gobi and Mojave because of it.

I think they might actually close the Outdoor theater right before Arcade Fire goes on, probably like Thom Yorke in 2010, PJ Harvey in 2011, and Florence + The Machine in 2012.

Uhh... if my first exposure to Cut Copy was their album from last year, maybe, but I don't think anyone who has listened to their entire catalog could argue that all they do is exactly replicate the sound from a bygone era. And while Tame Impala is absolutely inspired by the psych-rock of the late 60's and early 7-'s, I'd argue that they do a far better job of incorporating influences in an uniquely modern way.....whereas Temples just replicates influences. I also wouldn't be surprised if the people jocking Temples aren't all that familiar with a lot of other psych-rock bands in operation today.

As for Disclosure, I agree with what spiggums said re: nostalgia but being so well produced that it sounds fresh today. I also didn't love the album and preferred their first singles way more. These guys are talented though so I hope their success isn't just a flash of revivalism. Aren't they collaborating with pop stars now? Or was that thing with Lorde just a one time performance?

Agreed. But you can go further back and make the same argument towards Les Rythmes Digitales re-creating the 80s when Dark Dancer was released 15 years ago, but all in all, if it's well-produced I could honestly give a toss about it.

We'll just agree to disagree on Temples though.

They did have a session with Q-Tip in the studio, but not sure if there will be anything out of it. So other than Mary J Blige, they aren't collaborating with pop stars right now but that will obviously change in the future. The performance with Lorde was only a one-time thing, however.

Disclosure is the act to see this year. There is nobody out there right now doing what these guys are doing. Probably the most unique sound out of all the dance acts this year.

A recently successful band is more popular than a band that peaked 6 years ago? No way?
