Love this thread. Nick is definitely in my top 5 artists of all time.

He never plays this song, but it would be amazing since it's one of the best songs ever written.

Anything off of Let Love In, that's the definition of a perfect album. And it would be extra cool if he did some of his Leonard Cohen.

Ahh, I can't believe this is shaping up to happen.

"I'm sorry that I keep poppin' off with with my crazy mouth and jangling jester's cap
And I'm sorry that I ever wrote that book, I'm sorry for the way I look
But there ain't a lot I can do about that
There's things that simply cannot be forgiven
I was not equipped to know how to care
And in the occasions I came up for air,
I saw my life and wondered what the hell have I been living?
And I'm sorry about all your friends, I hope they'll speak to me again
I said before I'll pay for all the damages
And i'm sorry it's just rotten luck
I'm sorry I've forgotten how to fuck
It's just that I think my heart and soul are kinda famished
Forgive me babe, but don't worry
Love is always having to say you're sorry, I am from my head down to my shoes
I'm sorry that I'm always pissed
    I'm sorry that I exist
And when I look into your eyes, I can see you're sorry too."

    most amazing/gut-wrenching lyrics

I think if I posted all the songs I'd love to hear him play, it would be well over 100. So I'll stop there

FEELS thanks for posting Lay Me Low. It's the only Nick Cave song I can name offhand and I recall it's a pretty great song. Too bad he doesn't play it live.

Lay me low ftw... Did you know the live version on the abbatoir tour album was the only time he played it on the whole tour?

What's a good introductory album? I've been meaning to get more into Nick Cave for awhile but I don't even know where to start..

Only started listening to this guy after the talk of him being on the lineup. Don't know how he escaped my radar. Really good shit.

I would go with The Boatman's Call. It is beautiful and mellow, a good way to dip your toe in the water before you start listening to some of his wilder stuff.

Into My Arms and Are You The One That I've Been Waiting For are two of the most gorgeously written songs you will ever hear.

I'd have to disagree.. it's an amazing album but not a great starting point since it's pretty stylistically different than the rest. I'd say start with Let Love In, there's a mixture of calm and wild. If you want his more abrasive stuff, start with Tender Prey and go backwards. But all in all, every one of his albums are great.

That would be my guess. Opposite Tom Waits (per the probably fake LA Times leak) of course.

Rather it be Grinderman. Grinderman is the best Bad Seeds are the rest.

Too mellow, I think. There is no range on that album. I think among the more recent record, No More Shall We Part is probably the best. You get the beauty of Boatman's Call (Love Letter, Darker by the Day) and the manic intensity of some of his earlier work (Oh My Lord, Fifteen Feet...). 'Your Funeral, My Trial' is probably my all time favorite but not probably the best first record you hear from NC&BS.

The two times that I've seen him with the Bad Seeds, they played the same three songs from Murder Ballads:

    Henry Lee
    Stagger Lee
    The Curse of Millhaven
    *based upon tedious fact checking.
