Is this on the strip? Or elsewhere in Vegas? Im not sure what counts as "Downtown Las Vegas."

All over Vegas you can find deals. When Lee, Matt and I went to Matador at 21 we stayed at a kind of beat hotel across from the Palms which was fairly close to all the action. It was super affordable and has two really good Chinese restaurants in it, as well as a bar with either 50 cent or dollar Coors. It was a party unto itself, and I would definitely look at staying there again just for the great Chinese food.

Downtown Vegas is Fremont street and the area around out. The strip is about a 10 to 15 minute ride from there.

I would stay Downtown for this. The Plaza and El Cortez have some good remodeled rooms. Golden Nugget, Binions won't set you back a ton of money either.

You'll want to stay downtown in old Vegas. That's where the shows will be at. The Flamingo will be a $25 each way taxi ride. Much easier to stumble your way back to the room. I suggest Golden Nugget if you want comfort or if you want to be where all the action is, the Gold Spike. At the Spike they'll have pool parties with bands playing. I've not yet gone to one of the pool parties but I've heard they're fun.

Surprised to see Piss and Blood on the lineup. They're basically a Sex Pistols ripoff if I recall correctly but I played in a Johnny Thunders tribute show with the frontman/guitarist.

That is the Gold Coast BTW.

Personally that isn't so great for Punk Rock. The money you save on cheap Coors will be spent on $20-30 cab rides. You can bus it, but that is about a hour. Stay downtown and go to the HT (huntridge tavern) to get drunk, Shots are $2. Alternatively sit at a machine at the Golden Gate or Spike, and get loaded on $1 beers and bloody marys. The servers at the smaller casino's downtown come round faster than Strip.

p.s. Even if you are driving, you are going to have probs finding parking DT during Punk Rock. Most of the casino's lots are restricted to hotel guests or just full on weekends. Street parking is restricted too.

You guys are selling me on the downtown area. Sounds badass. Although, FYI, according to the Binions website they're no longer accepting reservations. The Plaza had a single room for a total of $180 for the weekend. Not bad at all.

That is really the best option. No hassle with getting back to a Strip hotel. On a weekend, a cab ride from somewhere like MGM to Downtown can set you back $40-50 if the cab driver takes you on the Strip (they would use Paradise or Industrial to be quicker) but most will haul you down the Strip with the traffic.

I like Fremont Street so much better then the strip. It's basically where the freaks go out and play at night and I love it. Binions isn't taking reservations because they closed down the hotel portion but kept the casino open. The Golden Nugget is probably going to set you back the most but it's also the nicest place down there. The Four Queens is a fairly cheap place. My only advice if you are booking a room at a hotel on Fremont street is to ask for a roomy that is facing away from the street.

The strip is not bad if it's your first time in Vegas. If you want something cheep and nice you can always check out the fountain show at the Bellagio or their crazy indoor garden. The TI still does the Pirate show and that's always fun to see.

Find something specific you want to do, maybe ride some rides on the top of the Stratosphere and see the whole city? Find a good restaurant and treat yourself-Wicked Spoon, Ramsey Steak, Rattlecan, Picasso, Public House. Go see a show-Penn and Teller, Zumanity or O.
My suggestion is if you go to the Strip find something specific to do or you end up wandering in and out of casino's not really seeing a lot. You might as well do something special, never know when you will be back.

The cheapest hotel on the strip hands down is Casino Royale. Centrally located and cheap.

The cheapest hotel off strip (walking distance to Hard Rock, Rumor, Kiss Mini Gold and Hoffbrauhaus (the closet thing to being in the movie Beer Fest) is Terrible's.

If you want to stay on Fremont the best of course is the Golden Nugget which is own by Landry's (the people who own Rain Forest Cafe, Charthouse, Claim Jumper, Bubba Gump and a bunch more)

The Plaza is pretty nice now that they got a complete overhaul and all the new furniture and fixtures from never completed and now dead Fontainebleu casino that will probably never get re started.

But pretty much everything on Fremont is reasonable.

For fun on the strip, I thought the Chuck Jones museum at Circus Circus was awesome. The Goretorium is okay, this is the year round haunted house on the strip owed by Eli Roth (the bear jew, hostel, etc.). For some reason people love the conservancy and chocolate fountain in Belagio. The conservancy is an amazing garden when you walk in. And the Shark Reef is nice at Mandalay Bay.

For off the strip, I think the Neon Museum which is all the old neon signs from Vegas past is really amazing! And Pinball Hall of Fame, with playable pinball machines from all eras. Also, the Mob Museum next to Fremont in the old post office is great, it's much better than that silly mob experience in the Tropicana.

Also it should be noted that the Imperial Palace and O'Sheas are closed because they are building that huge Ferris wheel with the shopping mall in the bottom. The best part is that they are going to have a Brooklyn Bowl there.

I will probably go to this concert, it looks great!

I know that most of you that have posted to this are hyped on the festival. Keep in mind that there's going to be club shows after the festival on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Sometimes these shows trump the festival. Last year there was the Good Riddance reunion, the year before All played and they played a set with every different singer, a year before that, Day-glo abortions and Cock Sparrer played. Granted they go on after the festival ends, but they go on until early morning. The shows this year will be posted in March.

In all honesty I wouldn't go on the Stratosphere rides. It seems cool and once you get past the initial reaction of being on a ride that high up they are pretty lame rides. The only thing I would consider is doing the Jumping off of it thing but that cost close to 100 per jumper. I would rather just take that money put it towards a show or something like that to see. While I agree with the finding something to do part I also think just walking around the strip is great also. While you do end up seeing a lot of casinos the decorations and interior are all different and all pretty nice. Plus on the strip it makes for some good people watching. Just be mindful that if you do walk it, it's a lot more walking the it seems so be prepared for that.

They added a happy hour for the first two hours of concert. 2 shots of Jameson for 6 dollars sounds like it's going to be a fun weekend.
