Thread: Car Camping 2013 (legit question for a GV employee)

Default Car Camping 2013 (legit question for a GV employee)

I don't know how many people can agree with me here, but I have to congratulate Goldenvoice for their superior work at managing the car camping situation of 2012. Never before has it been as easy to set up camp with my entire group of car camping Coachella goers.
Last year was genius. From the entrance into the car check ins, to the smooth transition and/or waiting space for car groups, I think that 2013 must match 2012 or even advance it.
My question to GV is will far camping remain the same or improve for 2013?
My group and I have attracted an even bigger crowd this year and is like to keep us all together as much as possible to maintain the same fun atmosphere as the year previous.
A response as soon as possible will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

    2013 here we come!

I was able to get 7 campsites in a row last year and right by the coachella poster billboards. i suggest to get there extremely early.

8 cars all in a row. Convinced 4 neighbors to switch so we could all be back to back. Worked like a charm. Hoping for a similar experience this year.

I'm glad I waited to do the car camping thing until it was smoothed out. Really looking forward to seeing how easy and awesome camping on-site will be this year.

5 spots in a row last year. Was a great time. Hoping for the same this year.

All I want is more Daedalus and Mary Ann Hobbs in the campground at night, rather than hop-in-circles cholo-cheese-techno. Tis my only real predicament w/ car camping.

This is what I'm gonna try to do. Really want back to back with like 4-6 cars.

I think we had like 9 spots lined up 5 on one side and 4 on the other so we had this giant common area in the middle. Very well done.

If it wasn't for the waiting lot, my group would have definitely been separated.
We were able to keep our 12 cars together with back-to-back spots.

the parking people asked us if we wanted side by side or back to back when we parked so we had 6 and 5 back to back. IT WAS PERFECT!

Same experience for me. I was shocked that they asked how we wanted to be parked rather than just doing it, but was incredibly happy to have 6 spots back to back rather than all in a row!! It was extremely easy to stay together as a group with the staging area, so if they do change anything about the camping situation, they better not change that part!!!

The only thing I would change is the time limit allowed in the staging area. The first half of my group got kicked out right before the rest of us got there. The cars between us were nice enough to let the rest of us go ahead of them.

Interesting ... I didn't realize there was actually a time limit to how long you could be in there. One car in our group got held up at the check point and the 5 of us waiting actually did get told to move along, but with only one car left we just sorta ignored their yells until the last person was through. I feel somewhat bad if we just blatantly ignored a rule like that, but not really since we all ended up together in the end, haha.

we had this problem too. one of our group had problems with th ecamping pass not scanning and it took a while to get it sorted out before they were able to join us. we just lallygagged long enough for them to catch up. would have been a bummer if they forced us to move on without them.

PS, we camped right across from your taco sign. wish I knew that was you!!

Aw shucks! Well, that flag is making a comeback this year, and it might have actual tacos to accompany it for Thursday evening.

I have heard success stories from people calling frontgate and adding it to their order. That is probably your best bet.

Have to say, car camping is one of the best things about Coachella. A glorious arrangement. By comparison, at English festivals you dump your car in a car park and lug all your stuff from there to wherever you fancy camping. Car parks are always about a mile from the arena, so you have a choice of a long trek carrying all your crap from the car to the campsite, or a series of long treks from where you're camping to the arena. Having everything next to you is brilliant, especially when (as last year) you manage to get a car spot a 2 minute stroll from the arena as well.

One question for you lot - where's a good (cheap) place to buy camping equipment? Three of us came across from England last year and picked up our stuff from Target on the way out of LA, but it seemed relatively expensive compared to what I was expecting. I aim to plan better this year, so is there any sort of horribly cheap camping shop I should try to locate?
