I think everybody that saw the Age of Adz shows were pretty enthralled by them, whatever their opinions on the album itself were. The music translated very well live, and even sounded better as reproduced by a stunning collection of musicians. The visual accompaniment to the shows were innovative and breathtaking. And most importantly, Stevens himself, whom I had thought for years (even as Illinoise and other records came out) was some kind of reclusive nutcase, came off as endearing, friendly, and totally approachable. He put himself front and center, made lots of eye contact with the audience, told jokes and stories about the songs, and happily interacted with the crowd. And after the grand majesty of a performance that was that album, he obliged everyone with several old favorites by himself with an acoustic guitar.

So I have to disagree with you a lot about that comparison. Stevens is a weirdo, but his approach and his music seems to come from a much more personal place than anything from the Knife, which i feel is more intellectual and from the gut than it is emotional.

I think you may be reading more of a value judgement into the comparison than I intended. I don't see them as a perfect one-for-one comparison for a lot of reasons, including some of the ones you mention, but what I do see as similar is the framework that both artists found themselves in: especially unique artists who achieved (probably shockingly so to themselves) wild levels of popularity and critical success in spite of all of their inherent weirdness and self-conscious artiness. The follow-up becomes a critical moment: do you try to do the same thing again, or do you follow your muse to whatever weird places it takes you, and hope (or maybe don't hope) the audience follows you along for the ride?

But yes, based on the Adz show I saw, it was definitely not an audience-alienating thing like this Knife show is being conjectured as.

I don't think The Knife are trying to alienate their audience with this show. In fact, I think they are trying to do the opposite. By having a "danceoke" and an "absurdist-aerobics" instructor open the show, they seem to be trying to make the audience let go off all of inhibitions. They are letting the audience know its OK to be weird and do things they aren't used to doing in public. Sometimes live shows can be a bore when the artist is up on stage giving it their all, and the whole audience is standing still. It seems to me like The Knife are trying to get people to get as weird and crazy as they can be for when they hit the stage. It is most certainly a challenging approach to a live show, but I don't see it as them trying to alienate their audience.

What happened on their last tour. I was only 14 when this happened and not financially ready to go to many live shows. I've been watching videos and its mostly ski masks and glowing stuff. 2006 was a good year for music fans apparently

There's no way a video will adequately capture the craziness of the 2006 shows. They had three layers of drop screens that they alternated projections on, as well as an inflatable balloon that took projections. They wore crazy glowing costumes and he hit stuff that may or may not have been triggering the music as she sang. The whole time it was just a sensory overload.

There was that, and now there is a bunch of goons jumping around on stage with some lights behind them.

The different drop screens were not visible until the projections were cast on them, so it felt like there were ghost images coming to life on stage all the time. They were also at different depths on the stage, so some images would partially obscure the performers at times, only for them to reappear with a new production behind them. It was also bizarre because they were supposed to have an opener who cancelled all the US shows. They didn't announce that, and they didn't start any earlier than their planned set time, so there was a ton of tension in the building that just fed into the energy that they created when they performed. It was such a spectacle in a great way. The only other times I've seen such an all-encompassing stage performance that worked so well with a great musical performances were Daft Punk in the Sahara and Nine Inch Nails on the Lights in the Sky tour.

The "live" show is not very good.

    That is my detailed review.

It's a bit like Logan's Run meets Riverdance.

To be fair, the show has been growing on me for 2 reasons.

1 - I know what to expect now, so don't have that initial WTF viewpoint.
2 - I consumed way more alcohol the second and third time I saw them.

The Vega show last night was sweet, with the venue being about 5 times smaller than the Roundhouse.

Is the show getting more polished each time? Anyways good tips for when I see it later this summer. Get hammered and enjoy the show.

Not more polished - but I'd advise to get as close as possible, as it is mostly visual.
