Naw, read the stories for more info. I think he claimed she took his money, walked around BSing for 20 minutes or so, then tried to leave with her pimp/driver. The law is designed to allow you to shoot someone who's robbing you at night, I guess so you won't go to prison if it turns out what you thought was a gun was not, and your actions were justified.

I can't see how application of that defense works here (other than a strict textual fashion), but calling for an appeal of a jury decision on a criminal charge without misconduct, probably not going to happen, double jeopardy and all that.

Side note - I'll probably be packing a heater in a few months if I get a job as a prosecutor in Texas. Don't worry, I won't shoot any hookers, your wives and sisters are safe! /sarcasm

It does sound like a psychopath who knew the law, studied it, and was waiting/looking for an opportunity to be able to kill another human.

    Heh.

    http://www.courant.com/news/opinion/...,4878261.story

As a lifelong career criminal, although I no longer enjoy the right to keep and bear arms, I'd like to take a moment to express my appreciation to the National Rifle Association for nonetheless protecting my ability to easily obtain them through its opposition to universal background checks.

Upon release in a few years from my current federal sentence on bank robbery and weapons charges, I fully anticipate being able to stop at a gun show on my way home to Connecticut -- where new laws have made it nearly impossible for a felon to readily purchase guns or ammunition -- in order to buy some with which to resume my criminal activities.

And so, a heartfelt thank you to the NRA and all those members of Congress voting with them. I, along with tens of thousands of other criminals, couldn't do what we do without you.

    The comments are priceless.

If the felon buys a gun, he is already breaking the law....period. He would ignore universal background checks anyway. This article is pure bogus.
Easily the dumbest thing I've read on the internet all day. I mean, I could have ignored my final exams in college, but that doesn't mean I would pass them.

Over the last twenty years, the number of people injured or killed by guns in California has decreased dramatically. In 1993, 5,500 Californians were killed by gunfire; by 2010, the most recent year for which data is available, that number had dropped to 2,935.3 In just two decades, the state’s gun death rate has been cut by 56%, a reduction that translates to thousands of lives saved every single year.4

Over the last twenty years, California’s gun death rate has decreased dramatically.
The rate of gun violence in California has also fallen notably compared to rest of the country. Today, California has the ninth lowest gun death rate of any state nationwide when twenty years ago, it had the thirty-fifth lowest rate.5
California has taken a comprehensive and courageous approach to addressing the epidemic of gun violence, and that approach has succeeded. The state’s strong gun laws not only help save lives, but also reduce the trafficking of illegal guns to other states and to Mexico, protecting lives in neighboring communities.

get rid of guns and cops.

Just recently picked up a Glock 23, now looking to build an AR-15 (.223/5.56).

California was an Orwellian, dystopian nightmare before marooko had the "right" to carry a concealed piece without first filling out some forms and stuff.

You still need a permit (as far as I know), the difference is now you don't need a defensible reason to carry one, all you need is a clean record. What scared gun nuts was who was evaluating your requests and deciding whether you had a good enough reason to issue a permit.

Orwellian and dystopian, that sound serious.

I like MN's interpretation, free-for-all concealed carry. Roulette with guns, yeah!
