Honestly I never dug her earlier stuff that much due to the song lengths. This new one is more accessible and with the longest song being 7 minutes, doesn't drag on as much. I will give that a re-listen now with my new found appreciation for her though.

Listening to Body/Head and it just reminds me of all the Kim songs I tend to skip on Sonic Youth albums. I'm glad she's got something going on after their dissolution, but I prefer tuneless screaming Kim Gordon to tuneless droning on and on Kim Gordon. I don't know if I'd like it more with different vocals, but the guitar drone stuff isn't really catching my attention enough to make up for anything. Might give it another listen some time, but it's not much of a priority (unless this final 17 minute track is amazing).

Ka - The Night's Gambit got a fawning review on FACT and on first listen, totally fucking deserved. Quite possibly the best hip-hop release I've heard this year by a not insignificant margin. Not a weak track. Really dig his flow, it's not at all showy, kind of laid back but confident and quietly menacing. Dark, claustrophobic beats in the finest NY tradition without seeming like a total throwback or anything. This is a fucking keeper. Shove it in your earholes immediately.

His gf broke up with him and he has like messages she left on his phone throughout the album. "Brutal" is great and "Papi" has a great pink Floyd sample.
I feel I should quote this because this post is what got me to check out this album. It's great and I don't hear enough people talking about it. It's definitely in my top tier for 2013..

If you like this song at all you'll definitely like the rest of the album

I listened to it twice, and nothing really sank in for me. A lot of it felt half baked or unformed.

this pretty much FEELS. I was once extremely excited for what No Age could become(something along the lines of the Pixies, Pavement), but now not so much. What I'm hoping is that I'm too close to it, and maybe with time their 3rd record, and this new one grow on me.

There are a couple tracks on there where I agree with that statement (Lock Box, Circling With Dizzy) but I Won't Be Your Generator, No Ground, C'mon Stimmung, etc. are outstanding I think. Maybe it's because I loved Life Prowler off Everything In Between and they sort of took off with that sound on this album. But you still get rockin' songs like C'mon Stimmung. Idk Pitchfork pretty much panned it, same with other people, and I think that's super undeserving.

Monomania I loved immediately. Now that is a record I didn't understand the hate. Well not hate, because people didn't really pan it, people were let down. The direction Cox took the band in made sense, and the songs are great.

I think the reaction is a normal one when a band somewhat unexpectedly shifts its sound on a new album (and especially when the last few albums have done fantastically well to "mine" a specific kind of sound).

Yeah agreed, which is why I changed my statement to let down. Most people seemed to complain about the sound. I understand that it takes time to adjust. I love Deerhunter, and their set at FYF was top 5 of the weekend even though I saw it from far far away.

It's cliche to say but those few songs off Monomania I saw live at FYF are what made me dig the album a bit more.

For those who liked Jon Hopkins Immunity, you can now find his soundtrack for the movie How I Live Now on Spotify. The soundtrack is more neo classical compositions then dance floor oriented but still just as good in my opinion. My only gripe is that some of the songs are just too short leaving me wanting for extended versions.

I struggled to get through the whole thing. Thought the album was pretty bland. I've only listened to it once, though.

Seems to be the case for most people it seems. Took 2-3 spins before I really got into it.

Bitter Rivals from Sleigh Bells is glorious. The first two songs I heard from it (title track and "You Don't Get Me Twice") are my least favorite. The other eight songs are heavy, sweet, catchy, bitchy, fun, sublime. Mother fucking in love with this band all over again.

I'm also listening to the new Polvo and thinking it may be their best release yet? Kind of a shocker considering those first three records.

I don't think Nicolas Jaar has released anything which disappointed me. It's definitely an album that you have to listen on your turntable or headphones

Holy shit. New Russian Circles which includes guest vocals from Chelsea Wolfe released another song. Epic: https://soundcloud.com/sargent-house...n-circles-1777
