Not sure if I hate it or love it.

I would probably check out Lindstrom/Terje if they came to So Cal. Only familiar with R-k-st but had that on repeat for days.

You should absolutely get your hands on Terje's It's The Arps EP from last year; as well as Ragysh.

Give the rest of Smallhans a listen; it's a lot better than Six Cups..., which is probably the weakest album in his discography.

I am loving this New Pere Ubu album.I feel like it is a mixer of Captain Beefheart(Pere Ubu's major influence on their band) and old sci fi movie soundtracks on the first listen.

Heard the first two minutes or so and it sounded really bad. Maybe it redeems itself in the last four?

i enjoyed No Line on the Horizon more than How To Dismantle... though I wouldn't say it was a "smash hit" like the article suggests, there were no major singles like "Vertigo", "Beautiful Day" etc.

Oh good, another list where you have to click on each entry one by one. It'd be nice if there was a law that decreed mandatory psychic trauma to rain down on those who organize their lists in that manner.

I know we're supposed to stick to discussing albums we've listened to, but I can't express how much I love this album cover:

    8/01 - Ceremony/Nothing - Roxy (?)

I listened to the California X album that got reviewed on all the major sites this week. It's really good fuzzy grunge-punk. Reviews are all citing Dinosaur Jr. as a reference point, and I guess I kind of hear it but they have more of a fuzzed-out Wipers sound to them. Good album, not great. Also, it reminded me a ton of Milk Music.

I had never heard of the band Night Beds before checking out 'Country Sleep' today. I don't know what it is, but cold weather always brings out the twangy, minimalistic folk music-lover in me. This record is sparse and hauntingly beautiful. It makes me want to go for a drive out in the middle of nowhere and blast it.

And in a completely unrelated note, Nosaj Thing's 'Home' is fantastic as well. I've been wearing that one out since it leaked. It's a very cohesive album that has a really nice flow to it. To me, the most important aspect of the record is his use of space. The patient approach has you practically begging for an outburst and when they do come they are incredibly effective.

I just checked this out and I actually was really into it. Totally agree about the Wipers comparison versus Dinosaur Jr. It's built on sludge and fuzz and contains that certain amount of rawness without much of the virtuosity you get from Mascis. I thought it was a really enjoyable listen though because I am an absolute sucker for sludge. I thought they did a fine job of crafting some pretty memorable tunes in the midst of it all too.

AHHH I was just coming in here to talk about California X! I didn't see reviews for it but just randomly downloaded it because the description sounded great...which it is! I love the love the super fuzzed out, sludgey sound, mixed with a big pop sensibility. I see the Dinosaur Jr. reference on pure sonics alone, but it's got a bigger, brighter, punkier tone overall than I would ever attribute to Dinosaur jr.

The new Tiger & Woods EP, Banana Balls, is as fantastically groovy as you would expect from these two.
