I can't stand Vampire Weekend from what I've heard, and I seem to remember them wearing douchey outfits too.

I'd disagree about parasite and fucktard in relation to Lydon. I love the man, but I think those are two very apt descriptions of him.

David Byrne went to RISD, made a whole album out of african and arabic radio samples with a man who makes decisions based upon his self-designed tarot cards, which he sells for obscene amounts of money, and composed an album for ballet. That sounds like the makings of a smug artist to me, but I also don't see that as always a bad trait, if it can be used to decent effect.

And, definition of smug: Having an excessive pride in one's self or achievements. Example: They are rich, privileged Ivy league people, so they're obviously horrible, dull and worthless, because they don't fit into my accepted artistic milieu.

Enjoys M. Ward and Vampire Weekend; calls Wilco boring.

Yeah....................... where did you see Wilco?

At the Hollywood Bowl. I had a nice box seat. A bunch of boardies told me it was an excellent first concert to see them at.

    Joanna Newsom was very good.

I guess on topic, Minilogue's new album is massive and pretty stunning. I still haven't gotten through the whole thing fully conscious (but I've been keeping it as my drifting off soundtrack for the past few days) but it's extremely long track lengths (typical track is 15-20 mins, one is 45 min(!)) actually are merited and easy to digest. Really gorgeous, complex, emotionally resonant minimal techno. Fuck Autechre, if you're going to listen to one 2 1/2 hour electronic release this year, make it this one.

Also, while it didn't consistently impress me on first listen, I fairly enjoyed Dalhous - An Ambassador For Lang. It feels like a mix between the dark textures of Modern Love and old school IDM/ambient techno with traces of Aphex and BoC. Worth a listen at least.
The sex thread?! Is that where Supre posts when he's not in the music forum?

    Thanks for these recommendations!

Hmmm might have been an off night for them. I've seen them a lot and never left their show being disappointed!

Exactly... see a band once and make a generalization about how they perform every night? That's stupid.

There's no way to be excessive in pride of that. It makes us better people than those who see fewer shows.

I already stated that everyone else who was there with me thought it was an electrifying performance. It wasn't an off night. I just don't like Wilco anymore.

And better than those of us seeing the same shows, depending on where we sat and what band members we harassed after the show.

That's not what you said. You saw Wilco play a boring show. Nice.

Are you not aware that subjective statements don't need to be prefaced with "this is subjective" to be understood to be subjective?

In fact I even DID say it was subjective via: "I think". Jesus christ.

Hey everyone. The new Colin Stetson album is good. I'm not familiar with his work, though. But (subjectively) I found it to be a rewarding listen.

Besides, you can't expect to call Wilco the most boring live band on the planet and not get shit for it. THE MOST? How dumb. I understand Wilco not being everyone's cup of tea... but I'm sure we can find some boring fucking live performers out there. Wilco are not.

I listened to the first thirty seconds of Stetson's album and was so bored, both my eyeballs deflated.

Will try again later, probably not in the right mood.

In other news Deerhunter's newest is NOT boring, and I like it.

I just remember wanting to leave so badly, but being trapped because I took the shuttle to the bowl (and even if I had parked there, it's stacked). And they played for some ungodly amount of time too. It was one of the most tortuous shows I've ever been to. You couldn't pay me to see them again.

Is this a good time to bring up Carl Wilson's Let's Talk about Love: A Journey To The End of Taste?

None of these things really belong in this thread but I feel compelled to reply anyway:

    1. Seeing Wilco by yourself in a seated venue would be fucking boring.

    2. Seeing Wilco without knowing any of the music probably wasn't smart, especially when they play a great setlist of gems and you know none of them.

I have gone to countless shows where both of those things were true and been completely awed.

    No more derailing, let's PM.

I disagree with that. I had a great experience with them doing just that on the last tour.

Anyone listened to the Anciients album yet? I was highly impressed with the range of metal styles they covered on it, often within a song.

See I just told Icey in PM; I saw them in AZ in a seated venue on this last tour and it was a bit snoozy. GA at palladium was a party.
