Omar-S Thank You For Letting Me Be Myself is my favorite house/techno album so far this year (which has been pretty weak so far IMO).

Yeah, I really like the new Deerhunter as well. Also, the Knife's new record is a complete mind fuck.
Four Tet - 3/1 - The Mohawk
SXSW - 3/7 - 3/16
The National/Warpaint - 4/21 - Moody Theater
Mogwai - 4/24 - Emo's
Tycho - 5/1 - The Parish
Austin Psych Fest - 5/2 - 5/4 - Carson Creek Ranch
Glad to see I'm in the minority with the new Deerhunter. They're one of my favorite bands of the past decade, and I plan on giving the new one plenty of chances.
Gave the Deerhunter record another spin. A few songs opened up this time around...particularly at the beginning and end of the record. It starts off really well - Leather Jacket II sounded much better on my good speakers than with headphones yesterday, and the abrasiveness of it felt more coherent than before. But from Pensacola up until the last two tracks, the album either feels really uninspired or way too familiar. Several of those songs in the middle third of the album sound so much like their past work, that when they play them live it'll take me a bit to recognize whether it's a new song or an old song.
Monomania is probably the best project I've heard this year in terms of my personal enjoyment.
Really liked Fidlar and Iceage's releases as well. James Blake new album is great too
There's been some interesting music put out there this year tho, like 'Wonder 2' by MBV and pretty much all of The Knife's album.
Favorite hip hop project so far would be Indigoism by The Underachievers. KRIT's new tape dropped today and that was pretty damn good, he just needs to show more growth.
Favorite r&b project so far would be Solitude by Bianca Rodriguez. Need Love Apparatus by Jesse Boykins III, and of course D'Angelo's album which will be an instant classic and will surpass any and everything.
Did anyone see that Goodie Mob got a release date? Maybe they will go to Coachella next year with Outkast. One could only pray.
Danny Brown tho. I am super excited about his album.
Sleepwalking is an awesome song. Def my fave from the new Deerhunter
The new Colin Stetson is fucking mammoth. It's physically draining it's so good.
need to hear that Jai Paul "leak"
11/21 - Pearl Jam - Viejas Arena
Whoa, Port St. Willow's Holiday is quite enjoyable in a depressive, somber, yet beautiful way. The record is spacey, moody, and dramatic. Interested in seeing how this band progresses and if the live show translates at all.
it's not a 2013 release, but since none of you have heard it wanted to post it in here. he's releasing a new project called Golden Era this summer. best in SD imo.

Holy shit. Mohammad's Som Sakrifis is really stunning. A very atypical drone record - think Sunn O))) (several of the chord progressions sound somewhat similar) but made by three Greek dudes with string and brass instruments instead of uber down-tuned guitars. A fantastic piece of music. IceyHotShot in particular would really be into this.
Somehow, despite all expectations, despite everything I could ever have thought, the new Black Sabbath song today has skyrocketed 13, their forthcoming album, to one of my most anticipated of the year. My gut reaction is that this song is the best thing anyone in Sabbath (except Brad Welk, but he doesn't really count) has worked on since Randy Rhoads died. It's killer.
I was hoping for some Sabbath talk...before I ask this in the Upcoming Shows thread, does anyone think it would be worthwhile to grab a pair for their Sports Arena show in September? Nosebleeds are $60.
OK, thanks. I'll give it a shot.
If you like great angry girl music a la Fiona Apple, early Liz Phair, Mazzy Star (not really angry but yeah) you should really listen to the new Waxahatchee album Cerulean Salt. Been digging this a lot these past few weeks.
New Junip album is fucking awesome
