First listen suggests there is quite a bit more tension on the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album than anything since their first album. That said, they're continuing with the musical lessons they've learned since the first EP and they incorporate more bass, electronics and production into their sound than they ever have before. Hell, Dr. Octagon spits a brief verse. I don't hear anything as immediate as Gold Lion or Date With the Night or Zero and on first go-around it's their least catchy album, but I'm interested to dig through it more.

Weird, this is the first Yeah Yeah Yeahs album that didn't leave me bulldozed with joy.

The Miles record is actually really great. Subtle beats, nicely atmospheric, great for late night driving. Nothing that blew me out of the water but it was still very enjoyable.

It's a great record, though I've only heard it on mp3. Knowing how knowledgeable Miles is about sound and production, I'm sure hearing it on a proper analog system will be an even better experience.

For those not familiar with Miles/Whittaker, this album is his first LP and goes all the way from techno (take Plastikman as reference) to noise/experimental (some similarity to Mika Vainio). Some ambient in there too.

The new Kurt Vile is certainly nice... but it doesn't strike me the same way Smoke Rings For My Halo did.

    I want this

The first of an annual volume, "Cause & Effect Vol. 1" features new unreleased recordings from Lou Barlow (Sebadoh, Dinosaur Jr., Folk Implosion), Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth), and David Yow (The Jesus Lizard), coupled with the current, fully-formed musical projects Dumb Numbers, Talk Normal, and Child Bite. Each Side B track corresponds to the musical trajectory set in motion by the former. Cause (side a) and Effect (side .

All three 7"s are sold together in one super elaborate package, featuring new amazing artwork (and sketches of each band) by Shawn K Knight. This release is strictly limited to 2000 hand-numbered copies on split color vinyl. The first 300 copies are pressed on silver/clear split color vinyl, and are available exclusively to VIP Members. The remaining copies (#'s 301-2000) are pressed on black/clear split color vinyl.

These are available for VIP so far, but will be available for non VIP soon!

Fans of Nick Cave would do well to check out American Twilight, the new one by Crime + The City Solution. The band has long-standing ties with Cave's old band The Birthday Party (Mick Harvey was an original member of Crime), and musically there're a lot of similarities between the two: kinda scuzzy and rough around the edges, with occasional moments of gospel-flecked beauty. Anyway, this is the first new album from Crime since 1990, so – for fans of the band, at least – it's kind of a big deal.

    James Blake/Kendrick Lamar collaboration soon?

“We met Kendrick Lamar and his manager Dave at SXSW and hung out and discussed a potential collaboration with James. If that was to come off then it would be great to release it via 1-800-Dinosaur and their label Top Dawg Entertainment in the States. It’s pure conjecture at the moment though, as everyone is too busy with touring commitments. The TDE setup is inspiring and something I’d like to replicate with 1-800, they’re like a modern day Death Row. It’s a long ball game. I find the whole hand stamped ltd 12″ idea to be about as limited as beards, beanies and tattoos in East London so we won’t be going down that road.“

After seeing a song of theirs atop this list of the "25 best songs of 2013 so far" this morning, I decided to give Phosphorescent's album a spin. Aside from the sound not usually being my thing, I had reservations about this album mainly because of the praises of people I know (none of you on here) who have awful, awful taste in music and constantly talk about dreck like The Head and the Heart and She and Him. The album was pleasant, there were some good tunes, but that's about it.

Every single song on mbv is better than that track Paste Mag put at #1.

So there's this nice interview with Dirty Beaches up on p4k today with a really wonderful and weird new song; I think I'll enjoy this new direction he's going in:

[Drifters/Love Is the Devil], which is due out May 21 via Zoo Music, has Hungtai taking detours towards cracked blues motifs, brittle techno, field-recording ambience, and guitar-led pieces not unlike Neil Young's soundtrack for Jim Jarmusch's 1995 existentalist Western Dead Man.

Hopefully it gets better with repeated listens, but the new James Blake is very sophomore slumpy feeling.

This is what I've heard from others, and what I feared after hearing the first two singles. Guess I'll find out tonight.

Perturbator's I Am The Night is a great retro-80s soundtrack-style album. Synth-laden, dancey, dark beats, at times bordering on industrial-sounding, with hints of John Carpenter. it could be compared to acts like Kavinsky and Futurecop, but without the funk elements of Kavinsky and much darker than Futurecop. It's mostly an instrumental album, too.

You can stream and/or pay what you want for the album on his bandcamp:

    http://perturbator.bandcamp.com/album/i-am-the-night

His other full length album from 2012, Terror 404, is also very well worth checking out - also on there, and available for free if you wish.

And his album covers are amazing:

EDIT: Oh drats, turns out I Am The Night was actually released in December 2012, and Terror 404 in May. I thought it was a bit more recent. STILL, very well worth checking out if this is your steez.
