Adventure after Weekend 2!

Myself and a friend from Halifax, NS are planning a trip for after weekend 2 to hit up some national parks on our way up to San Francisco. Just wondering if anyone else so far is planning something similar that would be interested in grouping up for part (or all) of it, has a place we could crash on the way or even just suggestions on where to go between Coachella and San Francisco. So far we are planning on hiking/camping in Joshua Tree, Yosemite and Sequoia and plan on renting a car but specifics of what areas of each park we want to hit up is still up in the air. Most importantly as this would be our first times in California what would you guys suggest for flying in and out? LA or SF?
