Yeah, I'm in no way suggesting that I'd want them to book the dance music that I'm actually invested in. But they could at the very least book better dance bands/acts that don't cater to 15 year olds.

The problem with all of these festivals is not that they book cheese EDM per se, its that they put up a giant "open for business" sign for fans of the same.

They could have at least booked Prydz for OSL!! Big name Dance act that does not suck.

Prydz, Disclosure, EOTS would be much better than fucking Kaskade, Zedd, etc.

If that's the case, why would someone pay to go to OSL looking for it?

Why woudn't you want better dance music!? The point is to attract people in , not just the locals. If OSL wants to become one of the big boys , it needs to up it's game.Ther'es already talent in the city. Whoever is doing the booking just sucks.

Honestly, the dance music line-up at most festivals this year is pretty terrible. I just looked over Roo and Lolla's line-up and they don't have much better dance music than OSL. Maybe its just the state of dance music right now, or that everyone goes to Europe to make the big bucks but other than EOTS or Disclosure there's not alot out there to be looking forward too. Maybe all the EDC fests and whatever other dance festivals are just taking all the talent for themselves. Obviously Chella is the exception as they have the Sahara and the new tent primarily for dance.

But how would a Ritchie Hawtin set go over at OSL or Squarepusher, etc? Due to their being only one night time set time it probably wouldn't work too well.

Underworld and the Chems need to get off their asses and either put out some new material or just start touring the US again. I could see either of them closing down Twin Peaks proper.

The yuma lineup was awesome. Loco Dice/ Hawtin/ Four Tet/ Maya/ Pete/ Cassy . That was something magical only Coachella could pull off.

So then the past two years haven't been stepping their game up? Dance music aside OSL has had one of the best line ups the past couple years. Clearly they are attracting non locals otherwise they would have just stuck with the jam band festival vibe.

There really is nothing more magical than booking a handful of relatively over-exposed DJs with pretty extensive U.S. touring schedules.

I agree. OSL is doing a fine job with their bookings and would prefer them scrapping the Pretty Lights, Kaskade's & Skrillex EDM for non EMD- subheadliners. Plenty of other times in the Bay to see the EDM or equivalents acts booked, individually or festivals.

There is a bar called Yancys at 7th and Irving I believe. Maybe it's at 9th? Either way I've only been there once and it was very mediocre. But it is in the inner sunset and decently close to the venue.

I'd say most here appreciate the improvement in dance music at Coachella this year. I personally think Coachella has a top notch and fun crowd and to mix in good dance music was amazing but Re-read what you wrote. No one here will agree that only Coachella can pull that talent especially when you have festivals who have done so for years like DEMF and more recently dB, Mutek, Moog, BPM, Ultra, and even EDC. I'd more likely agree with your statement if you had distinguished non-electronic focused festivals in N.A.

In short, curb your enthusiasm bro

I'm pretty sure Richie puts on one good set for every 20 complete crap sets he plays, too, at this point.

Cassy is legit though, I've never heard of anyone not having fun at her sets. But, she tours a lot. Didn't she just play here a couple of weeks ago? I've seen her for either free or $5 at least a couple of times in the last 2 years. So these are not really unique draws.

The negative reaction is probably because when it comes to indie/rock music, Coachella goes for (or at least used to go for) the less obvious choices, the act that other festivals didn't manage to or didn't think to book, and gave you a lineup that was partially things you have been anxious to see but had no opportunity to see yet and partially things that you'd never heard of but really got into once you did lineup research. While the electronic bookings on the lineup this year were not as bad as last year, it was still really uninspired.

But at any rate, I don't feel like strong electronic bookings need to be a part of OSL, as was mentioned, I'd be concerned that it would change the festival demographic. If you really want to see quality electronic music, the festival ends early enough each night to go to a show afterwards. There will definitely be something worth going to.
