Trombone Shorty was such a fun show when I saw him in san diego back in 08. I hope I'm able to catch him again.

    Any under card hints??

Trombone shorty -- i was interested in the name. i love the horns. sounds jammy. Thanks scenicworld

Dumpstuphunk -- i saw them a year or two ago at a small fest in Eugene. they were kind of the headliner, you could say, and i slept on it and only caught the second half. so much fucking fun i am forced to curse during my recollection. a must see... if you're into wicked guitar riffs and jammy dance tunes that rock face

god I love Hall & Oates. I'm so glad OSL got them! Ever since they have been doing shows again, I hoped one of my fests would get them.

For those on the fence for this festival, if you're even remotely interested in the line up, I'd recommend for the setting and food alone. It cannot be beaten.

I agree, but the food is pretty damn expensive.

Leaning towards yes, a little more difficult now that I don't live in the Bay Area.

I completely agree with you. I'm a third year oslander and a 2nd year eager beaver and i have no intentions on missing any osl's in the future. The vibes and the scene are wonderful and the crowd seems to be solid. i've made friends and crashed on couches from newly made friends each year i've went.

there is no camping and the lineup is a bit short, but it's solid every year. and there are only 4 stages, so seeing every show you came to see is not typically a problem. this fest definitely seems to be more about the music and less about the party, which is great imo, and i believe the artists concur. i get my camping and partying in at smaller festivals throughout the summer, i attend OSL for the music.

with that said though, the beer and wine selection are wonderful and i've never had a problem getting in my own goodies. security, once you're in, doesn't seem to give a shit about anything. there is 5-0 walking around, but they actually seem to be really nice, and not care too much about party activities. i've never seen anyone being escorted out, other than rushers. plus you're in downtown san francisco once the show is over! if you can't find a way to entertain yourself after the show, that is your problem. And i have to disagree with the following statement of expensive food... for $10 you can fill your belly no problem, from a variety of booths.

once adding up all the costs it takes for tickets, travel, living, and time off of work, this is the best mainstream fest on the west, imo.

My only objection at OSL is I rarely see anyone dancing. Not sure why, maybe bay area folks are too self-concious, but damn, why do I always have to be the only one?

Let's make one thing clear to people not from the bay area. The festival is nowhere near downtown SF. It's like 6 miles away. Those 6 miles, at peak hours, range from very difficult from almost impossible, when trying to get downtown. You probably won't be able to hail an available cab/uber/lyft/sidecar, and public transportation will be absolutely packed and even less useful with its waittimes and gridlocks. As a local, my best bet is either getting a friend who isn't going to drive me, or maybe even find a friend that IS going that is also driving there. I know a bunch of locals ride bicycles there and back, pretty easy but I'm not the cycling type. Out of towners, you could try and prepay a driver/company/etc in advance so that during peak hours, you'll actually be able to get them to come pick you up instead of the other tens of thousands trying to do the same thing...

Yeah the food and alcohol at OSL are great. Coachella has some good food beyond burgers and fries but OSL is on another level in that department.

A good trick for getting home via bus is just taking the bus going away from downtown. A few of the lines that serve GG park start downtown and do a loop, so if you get on headed towards the ocean it'll be empty and you'll probably get seats before the bus turns around and a million people try to get on.

My only quibble with OSL is too much talking during sets. I never notice this at Coachella, but at OSL it is maddening. That said, the gorgeous setting and Wine Lands totally make up for that.

Out of towners read this! Do not make the same mistake I did my first year. We were staying near Russian Hill and tried to take the bus in around 2:30. Every bus going to the Park was so full it wouldn't even stop. We ended up walking over 3 miles. The next year we stayed near the Zoo and our hotel offered a shuttle. Or if we were going in early, we drove and found fairly convenient street parking.

As far as talking goes... who of you were at New Order? If you were there, you know how small the crowd was, and you know how fucking loud they were playing, which I like. About two songs in, the bitch behind me (stand back, women, she earned the word bitch) was apparently getting upset that she was going to have to side step about an inch over if she wanted to see the stage perfectly, and it was 100% my fault. First she spills her water on the backs of my feet, which felt good. Then she starts screaming over the band. I have no idea how she was doing it, but she was literally scream talking over the music so that everyone around her could hear this chipmunk screech. I turned around and gave her the look that shut her the fuck up, but I really shouldn't have had to. In another time, and another place, the man would have beheaded the woman. In another time, and another place, the man and his group would have killed all the men in the group she was with, and had their way with the women. PLEASE, WOMEN. I LOVE YOU. APPRECIATE HOW GOOD YOU HAVE IT IN THIS TIME AND PLACE. We wouldn't want men reverting to their animalistic underskins now, would we?

I felt the same way last year. I could see people cutting their eyes at me as if to say, "Why is that man moving his feet in such a rhythmic motion?". Oh well, I'll just keep on dancin!

I dunno I saw plenty of people dancing, especially during Stevie. However I always prefer to say further back so I have more room to dance and I'm guessing that's why I see other like minded people dancing. The only few sets I've been up real close for over the years there hasn't been any room at all to move around and dance so maybe that is it.

The kind of people that give a shit if other people aren't dancing while they are dancing are usually bad dancers and assholes.

This is kind of a SF thing in general. You will even see lots of people just standing around at electronic events. Or glaring at you when you dance near them. Ignore them.

I saw plenty of people dancing last year... Tanlines set started my first day at OL with a ton of dancing. If anyone is glaring or staring, please just keep dancing. I love seeing people dance and be in a happy state of mind. The worst thing others could do is move away or tell you to stop, which in that case, you should tell them to kindly shut the fuck up and mind their own business. Have fun everyone.

In all fairness to the the girls, Beck isn't exactly the most dance inspiring music out there. Either way I thought that Beck show was just terrible and I haven't been motivated to listen to him since.
