Aside from headliners, any smaller bands people are looking forward to seeing? I'm hoping for Alt-J or Grimes, I could easily see both of them as either Panhandle closers or mid-day at Twin Peaks

I'm hoping for Mumford to be there. Have yet to see them and they seem like they would be a perfect fit for this festival; either subing or actually headlining.

I agree, it seems likely too.

I think Mumford is likely as well but hopefully as a sub. It seems like Sasquatch headliners are OSL subs.

I don't get the hype around M&S, but whatever.

I'd be down for some Kanye though!

Bruce Springsteen, Green Day, Kanye West, Phoenix, Mumford & Sons, Yeah Yeah Yeahs

I can definitely see OSL being close to this in 2013.

Kanye is gonna be doing a few festivals to promo his new album, and Lolla/OSL would not surprise me. Big Boi got a GREAT reaction last year, at least where I was, so seeing acts like Wiz & Kendrick, who would be perfect for the OSL crowd, on the lineup would be nice.
I would like to see Kendrick there. I'm not a big Whiz fan. I really would like Jurassic 5.

Paul Simon in the Stevie Wonder slot, Bruce Springsteen in place of Metallica, Tom Waits in the Neil Young slot.

    Dare to dream.

If Bruce is there, I would think he would get the Phish treatment and have a double headliner set or at least 3 hours.

I'd think they'd go younger Saturday...and Green Day does seem like a reasonable guess.

Sprignsteen or Clapton as the Friday headliner would be just fine.

Springsteen's third trip thru the bay area in 16 months aint happening. Not sure he's ever done 3 trips through a region in California on a single tour.

As for Clapton, i've actually fallen asleep at one of his shows. Is he really a desirable headliner? Though the 121212 performance was good.

What about McCartney? Isn't he heavily rumored for Bonnaroo?

You gotta figure with the extra 10,000 tickets per day they have to sell this year they need to keep it strong at the top to bring in the casual music fans.

Because you somehow manage to fall asleep makes him not a desirable headliner for others? One of the best shows I've ever seen. Music wise of course because he doesn't move and nothing more then a thanks as far as crowd interaction. Either way Clapton won't be there. Has he even played any festivals that wasn't crossroads recently?

I doubt Macca will be there also. Didn't he just play AT&T last year or so? Macca isn't exactly one to hit the same city multiple times within a couple years is he?

McCartney would be a great headliner! you think OSL can afford him?

He did just play Hardly Strictly this year though. That probably eliminates him.

I think it's a long enough gap between the two fest so I don't think it would be an issue. I don't think these older acts like to tour as extensively as they used to so Costello might rule himself out of it but I don't see why APE should rule any Hardly Strictly act out.

The last 4 gigs in Vancouver by Clapton had phoned in performances. Knebworth 1990 might be the last time he did a relatively full festival set that was a paid gig. he's done lots of charity gigs with short sets.

Macca would be $3-4m plus Bonnaroo might have a 2012 stateside festival exclusive.

You might be right, but has there been a band that has played at OSL the year after they played at HSB? I don't think so but I'm not going to spend an hour double checking. They definitely have us guessing this year.

There might have been some smaller tier acts to do it but nothing of the Costello level. Either way it's not worth it and sort of pointless to spend the time to research it.

I hate to sound cynical, but if the biggest festivals have to dig way back to performers like Paul McCartney and Elvis Costello, what does that say about the state of music today? I watch Woodstock and some of the old Loolapaloozas and tears well up in my eyes. There's great music out there, but what happened to big time performers who aren't hip hop or pop performers?

They're called Arcade Fire, the Black Keys, Muse, Gorillaz, Phoenix (remains to be seen I suppose), Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and within a few years acts like Frank Ocean, Grizzly Bear, etc. They're out there, they are draws, but we don't have the homogenized culture of decades past where people unanimously agree on what is good. The fact that a band like Arcade Fire can headline a festival is more impressive than someone like Paul McCartney in my eyes.
