I'm uncomfortable with the Album Name - Artist format. It really should be the other way around.

That's right. The album - artist listing just doesn't make sense. It presupposes that you know the name of every album coming out. And yet people here still do it all the time. Not just Xanax either.

Sigh. I really hope AIR puts out at least one more good album before they shut it down.

I made mine pretty awesome back in the day but now the new format overwrites my html so it doesn't work right. I just never wanted to delete it.

It's relevant for film but I put it on the list because I personally enjoy it more than albums like WIXIW, Luxury Problems, Cruel Summer, The Seer, Confess, etc.

Are in-person situations in which people refer to albums, in that exact format, common in foreign countries?

    Oh really?

Just think about it for a second. It makes no sense to introduce an album you are supporting by giving the title and THEN referencing the band. The band is the selling point: who cares about an anonymous album if there is no context as to who made it? And I'm fully aware that I'm trying to convince a troll to stop being a troll, but really, why would you do it that way?

sad that so many people let the Frank Ocean hype get to them and overshadow the GEM that Miguel dropped. IMO the best R&B album to come out this year. highly recommend it.

This seems like a totally legitimate reason to share a link to it with a bunch of strangers who couldn't give two shits about any kind of web presence you have.

Why do you keep saying that? Nothing "surrounding" the Frank Ocean album had much of an effect, unless you're a dipshit. It's atop so many lists because it's an incredible piece of work.

I feel like Frank Ocean has a sound that lends itself to crossover appeal a lot more than Miguel. you're finding Frank Ocean on a lot of lists by people who otherwise are not R&B fans.

Yeah, that Frank Ocean album is a decent listen, but its success definitely rests on its accessibility more than anything. And let's face it, the kids buying into the "indie" market these days aren't the type to explore genres; they'll just eat up this album and anything that tries to ride its coattails.

I agree with what Andrew said but not with that. It's got a crossover appeal because he's not just sitting on R&B songwriting tropes and the same basic timbres and instrumentations that the genre always has. The success rests in large part on the fact that he wrote a fantastic batch of songs, and the backlash against the album seems to just ignore that fact.

I wrote something similar to what you just earlier in another thread haha. I'll bet Pitchfork's Readers Poll #1 album will be Frank Ocean! Anyway, this is R&B I like: perfect 10 from Pitchfork?! This masterpiece posted today

Yes, this. I am not really an R & B fan at all, but I love Frank Ocean. However, I still haven't gotten into Channel Orange the same way I did Nostalgia, Ultra, though it definitely is growing on me.

There are definitely some gems ("Thinkin Bout You" and "Pink Matter"), but I don't think the album was entirely consistent; there were bits that weren't exceptional and the vocals got to be off-putting at times. Overall, it's still a standout album worth listening to - a refreshing listen considering where pop music is in 2012. But it just didn't click for me as a whole. This isn't dismissing Ocean's talent or potential, I just don't think the album is as remarkable as the performer.

I can't get into him BECAUSE of Nostalgia, Ultra. I hated that album so much that it's all I could think of when I listened to Channel Orange, which is mediocre at best.

Miguel's album is on plenty of lists, it's definitely a solid release.

It's difficult to have final thoughts on a year that isn't over yet.
