Maybe you're being too strict with the "psych" label?
It's kind of a misleading label in general. Bands like Ty Segall, that are definitely garage bands, use a "psychedelic" vocal effect and suddenly they're in the big pool of psych bands. It's a term that's used pretty widely, and is often misused (just like shoegaze is, constantly). But hey, what can you do.
I finally made it through a listen of Sun Kil Moon - Benji and had put it on maybe 4 times til I could finally feel mentally like, "just fuck it just let this guy blabber on" while I'm doing paperwork .
