Have you guys seen the Street Art? There are about a half dozen giant murals being painted downtown. Life is Beautiful will leave them behind for the city. Really fucking cool.

I will be at The Joy Formidable at 7-ish ... then The Killers.

Had a fantastic time last night (cept for losing my ass at the slots). Every band I saw sounded great. Some sound issues during P.TM, but those boys are talented enough to smile through it all and keep going like the consummate professionals they are. Cults brought it as did Beck (being a Scientologist cooz and all). KoL - whatev. And god that fucking rats nest on the Purity Ring front woman. I couldn't even look at her after a while. Vile.

But all in all, a very well organized event, especially for being a maiden voyage. My cabbie said there were only 36,000 attendees (calling Mr. Bee), that it's a Vegas rule for promoters to give a headcount to the tourism bureau and taxi association. Or some shit like that. Oh, and speaking of taxis? Forget about getting one at the end of the night. The queue was a two hour wait. Ended up walking to the Strip at Charleston and hailing one NY style. Will be driving tonight and will park on the closest residential street not cordoned off by the pigs.

Ritzy, my love, here I cum.

The Joy Fucking Formidable. One of the best sets I've ever laid witness to. and I've seen them as a standalone show before. Wow. I'm shaking, almost on the verge of tears at how fucking affecting that experience was (right against the rail, and Ritzy let me strum her guitar). Just wow. Unless Brandon Flowers pulls some amazing trick out of his tight little ass, TJF is easily, hands-down, without-a-doubt the best set of the weekend. Did I say wow?!

Loved them since their first EP. Glad you got to experience what I did tonight (minus the party hat). They've just skyrocketed to one of my all-time favs.

OK, so The Killers were pretty fucking amazeballs, too. They paid a stirring tribute to Lou Reed with a pitch perfect rendition of Pale Blue Eyes. Gave me goosebumps. And their wild cover of Viva Las Vegas made me hoarse from singing loudly along (as if they were channeling the Dead Kennedys version). They and TJF were worth the price of admission alone. Really hope this festival happens again next year - downtown Vegas is ideal.

Now, if you'll excuse me, my scruff account is blowing up, and I need to take care of a few horny bitches tonight.

I went to this festival with my wife. We had a blast! We've been to numerous Coachellas and Lollapaloozas so we had very high expectations which were all exceeded.

Saturday was amazing from open to close. We were one of the first people to enter the festival and the process went smooth. Checked our bags, a little pat down, scan the wristband, in. We then walked the entire grounds and got the lay of the land. Getting from stage to stage was easy and quick. From one main stage to the other in 5 minutes or less. During the day the crowds were non-existent. We did and saw whatever we wanted to do. Every bite of food we had was amazing. They also had spicy pie at a couple different locations and we had to have a slice. We also stopped in and watched some chefs do some live cooking in an air conditioned tent. That was pretty cool too! We checked out some local bands to start off our tunage. Same Sex Mary was pretty good. Good sound on the smaller stages. They brought in a trumpet player named Joey Pero, another local staple, and I like trumpets. Then we saw some of Cayucas. They were okay. The rest of the bands we saw that day were amazing and I don't have anything bad to say about any of them. Youngblood Hawke. Alabama Shakes. Capital Cities. Imagine Dragons. Beck. I have never seen any of these bands before and I was very impressed with them all. Beck KILLED IT! He was funny and he had me laughing out loud five or six different times. We didn't hang out for Kings of Leon because we don't like them. We grabbed a shuttle back to our car and went home. A few random things. Water stations were all over the place. We froze four bottles of water and brought them with us and just filled our bottles back up at the stations. Quick and easy and no lines. The restrooms were everywhere and you couldn't smell them from anywhere unless you happened to be standing inside of a port o potty. Food and beer were also everywhere. I am amazed at how organized this festival was. That was Saturday. The only thing I can think of negative to say is that they needed to do a better job at trash management.

Which they did on Sunday. I didn't see any overflowing trash or lack of trash cans at all Sunday. Seems like someone realized they messed up the day before and adjusted. We ate at the food truck alley on Sunday twice. I had a hot dog wrapped in bacon with chili and cheese and some sweet potato tots. My wife had a lobster roll which was really good. She also had some fish tacos that were awesome! Sunday's music did not impress me as much as Saturday's music. We saw Living Colour which was AWESOME! I saw them 20 years ago and they still have it! The day went downhill from there. Allen Stone was alright. I liked the soul/blues aspect of his music, but he took the shtick too far in my book. Twenty one pilots were entertaining. We saw some of Jurassic 5 which was okay. We watched a bit of Passion Pit. I have no idea what people see in that band. They suck ass in my book. Falsetto is WAY overused and the music is trite and boring. Sorry if I offend anyone. We left and went to check out The Joy Formidable. They were okay. I had never heard them before. Very good show and stage presence. I might check out some of their recorded work. Since we had both seen the Killers WAY to many times in the past, we left. If you know me, you know I have a love/hate relationship with the Killers and couldn't bear to witness their set. I bet it was good.

Anyway, figured I'd share my experiences. Peace!

I'm not festival veteran but I've been to 2 coachellas and outside lands. This festival might have been my favorite. We stayed in downtown which was fucking cracking, its also nice to stay in a hotel thats walking distance. Musically the line up wasn't overwhelmingly good, but the art, food and beer/liquor selection was the best I've ever seen at a festival, or anything similar. This is going to become a tradition.

Only gripes with this festival is that the trash situation kind of sucked at night. Theres no beer garden(which is awesome, walking around with your beer is great) but a lot of people just started tossing their empties on the floor. And the two main stages were too goddamn far apart, it was like a 15 minute walk, we went back and forth 4 or 5 times on Friday, that was a mission.

Here was what my experience was like:

Saturday: checked in at the Plaza around 2, began to drink and got ready. Walked Fremont street to the festival, an entertaining 10 minutes, and walked right in... again got the "harmless white boy" stereotyping from the security and just pointed me to the entrance with no search. Was blown away by the lay out, food, beverage and art that was put together. Also kinda cool to be able to hop in bars and casinos if you want. Grab a beer from the Alchemy Garden, then walked to Youngblood Hawke... was pretty disappointed, sounded lack luster and just couldn't get into the rest of their songs. We then went to Alabama Shakes who were pretty awesome. Capital Cities was next and they were awesome. So much fun and their cover of The Bee Gees "Staying Alive" into Weezers "Sweater Song" was great. We then jumped back over for some of Imagine Dragons, they were pretty good, nothing too special though. Then back to the tail end of Purity Ring who seemed pretty good as well. I will definitely check them out in full next line up i see them on. Stuck around for Childish Gambino and was happy with what i saw, good music with some energy coming from the band and Glover. Missed Beck, which was a sacrifice i was willing to take. Left after that due to not caring to see Pretty Lights for 1000th time this year and King of Leon are just not for me. Fremont street was poppin off anyways, so that was great.

Sunday: After watching some football and having some beers, we headed back in. Watched some more of the game until my fantasy team started to dwindle in points... so grabbed some more beers and headed to Twenty One Pilots. They were ok, still great energy, but nothing like their show at Outside Lands. Or maybe the same, just didn't meet my expectations. Then we walked in to the art gallery motel and looked at some "neat" art, but the highlight was the Bieber looking kid and his douche posse telling us that he did some paintings that i doubt he did. He also might have been a dwarf, saw a couple of them around. Either way i was a bit too high to process what they were doing, so i just laughed at them all. Back, to the music, J5 was up next... third time seeing them this year so it was Deja Vu before Passion Pit came on. Passion Pit was fine, first time seeing them live from start to finish, but nothing spectacular and their sound doesn't transfer well from their recording to live set. Caught some of Joy Formidable and they were entertaining, never heard them before so it something new to throw into the music collection. Thanks for recommending them Board members. Back to Vampire Weekend, they were better this time around compared to Outside Lands, but the sound was also better at LiB. Then the Killers came on and did not disappoint. Was blown away how good they were and the Lou Reed and Las Vegas tributes were both incredible. Also nice to hear some back story on the songs and their history in Vegas. They seemed very happy to be home and playing for everyone. Brandon Flowers is an incredible front man and i will not missing them at any future festivals/events i end up if they are on the line up.

Long i know, but it was an awesome weekend and hope they continue this and possibly expanding it. Great size as is, amazing lay out, awesome surroundings, great drink and food selection and atmosphere was perfect. I enjoyed the crowd too, majority seemed very mature and nice not having to run into people bug eyed and drooling over the lights. Bathrooms were BY FAR the cleanest restrooms i have ever seen at a festival. Trash was messing on Saturday, but wasn't too noticeable Sunday. Great times, if you missed this years i suggest going next year if it comes back.

I had a great time at the fest. So many options when it came to food or drinks. I stuck to the restaurants and bars on fremont. When I saw that cocktails cost 13 bucks in the tents, I went to the griffin and paid 5 bucks for a double. I really hope it comes back next year.

Griffin was dope, that girl bartender was insanely beautiful. I did some drunk zoning out looking at her for sure.

I approached this festival in a different manner than most. I've seen most of the bands that were on the bill, so I went to the discussions and the chef demonstrations. I also pursued the food and tried as much food as I could afford. The discussions were pretty life affirming and were limited to about 15 minutes and the stories were very interesting, especially if you had no idea of who the person was. If this is held next year, I'll probably limit the amount of bands I see and see more demonstrations and discussions.

Read some good articles about the festival today and yesterday. Looks like it was a big success for the city and the organizers. They are already planning next years festival. I, for one, can't wait. Traveling to festivals is too expensive for me these days. Glad they replaced Vegoose with something better.
