Looking at the actual quote from a Romney concession speech transcript:

I thank my sons for their tireless work on behalf of the campaign and thank their wives and children for taking up the slack as their husbands and dads have spent so many weeks away from home.

shows that I guess he wasn't speaking generally about all of his campaign staff but specifically about his sons and their wives. So I remembered wrong. And he doesn't have any daughters.

And maybe his daughters-in-law and grandchildren actually didn't do anything on behalf of the campaign other than stay at home. But this seems unlikely and, if true, yeah, I would consider that strange and creepy.

I think she's having trouble with not having information fed to her on a teleprompter. During these live shows, newscasters are expected to ad-lib and chat during these live bits. She's tired, on live TV in front of millions and has all this data flying at her that she has to deliver quickly and effectively. It's really tough to do. Some are just better at it than others.

If there's one thing that really resonated with this campaign for me is Barack Obama's social networking marketing. All of these Meme's (Profile <--- Has Barack's Back), Reddit appearances, twitter updates etc feel so fake, yet it has resonated to the people. With after Obama, it will be interesting who the next "hot young candidate" will be.

I don't think he meant anything by it, I don't think he was trying to be rude and sexist and creepy. If I asked him about it he probably wouldn't know what I was talking about. He's not a cartoonish supervillain cackling about oppressing women; he doesn't see it as oppression.

When he said it, I cringed. I was half asleep, I don't think I was hoping for him to say awful (or in this case, telling) things, I was just listening, paying attention to what he said.

I am not trying to make memes out of it but I think it does detract from the classiness of his speech (as was the context of my comments here).
