The one good thing about reusing Vader, I think, other than he's cool, is that the whole saga (thus far) is sort of about Anakin Skywalker's rise and fall. So a sequel trilogy with more Vader would fit, I guess... But then, the saga has also been about the Empire's rise and fall, and I think it would make more sense to revive the Empire for more trouble.

He won't be the primary villain.

it could be as little as one scene in a flash-back or a dream.

That's what I'm hoping. Maybe Darth Vader, in the past, set up some events that led to troubles in the future. I wonder how extensive the others' (Luke, Leia, and Han) roles will be, though.

it would have to be a clone or be in the past to show vader, right? otherwise, wouldn't they have to show hologram anakin, a la obi wan? i didn't read the books, but the end of Jedi implies that vader became anakin again and lives in hologram land with obi wan.

Looks like Lawrence Kasdan is being brought in to write the screenplay for Episode 8 and 9. Sorry if this has already been mentioned.

Actually, we know he's been hired to write a Star Wars movie screenplay we don't know if that's episode 8 and/or 9 or if it is a spinoff Star Wars movie like a Boba Fett solo film for example. We also know that Simon Kinberg (Sherlock Holmes, Jumper, X-Men Days of Future Past) has also been hired to write a Star Wars screenplay (episode 8 and /or 9 or a spinoff film). Kinberg's hire may be a clue to Matthew Vaughn getting the directing job because he's worked with Vaughn's pal Guy Ritchie on Holmes and was working with Vaughn on X-men Days of Future Past before Vaughn left that film.

Just to clarify about the spinoff films Disney said that a Star Wars movie would come out every two or three years they didn't state that each film would be part of the new trilogy. Think about how Marvel has handled their cinematic universe with phase 1 complete and now moving on to phase 2. You have these individual hero movies that lead up to Avengers movies. Now obviously their won't be as many non trilogy films as you see in the MCU, but I think they may be borrowing a bit from Marvel's blueprints.

Matthew Vaughn accidentally 'confirmed' as new Star Wars director?

Was this the moment Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels star Jason Flemyng accidentally let slip that his old pal Matthew Vaughn has been hired as the new director of Star Wars?

Vaughn has been tipped to take on the first film in Disney's new trilogy, which follows the studio's acquisition of LucasFilm and all rights to the long-running space opera for $4.05bn earlier this month, after Brad Bird, Steven Spielberg and Star Trek's JJ Abrams all ruled themselves out. Flemyng, who appeared in Vaughn's comic book reboot X-Men: First Class, last year, was speaking at the UK premiere of his new film Seven Psychopaths.

Asked by film site Hey U Guys if he had spoken to Vaughn about Star Wars, Flemyng said: "Me and Matt have done nine films together, so I'm sure I'll get the call for Star Wars." He then appears (from 40 seconds in) to realise he's said too much.

Speculation over Vaughn's appointment has been fuelled by the fact that the Kick Ass director unexpectedly pulled out of shooting upcoming X-Men sequel Days of Future Past in October. Disney has confirmed that the Oscar-winning writer of Little Miss Sunshine and Toy Story 3, Michael Arndt, will be the screenwriter for Star Wars: Episode VII, which is due in 2015. The stars of the original trilogy, Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) and Harrison Ford (Han Solo) have all been tipped to return to the series.

JJ already made a good Star Wars movie. Regrettably, he named it Star Trek.

New Spinoff Films Set to Expand the Star Wars Galaxy
    February 05, 2013

The Star Wars cinematic galaxy is about to experience a Big Bang. Lucasfilm is officially announcing new spinoff films that will expand the mythos and depths of the Star Wars universe in previously unexplored ways.

One of the standalone films will be written by Lawrence Kasdan, screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and co-writer of Return of the Jedi while the other will be penned by Simon Kinberg, writer of Sherlock Holmes and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. The movies will be separate from the upcoming Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, on which Kasdan and Kinberg are also consulting, and are expected to be released sometime after Episode VII. Each standalone film will focus on a specific character, and two spinoff films are currently confirmed.

In a call to investors, Bob Iger, chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, revealed while the original focus was on the highly-anticipated sequel trilogy, the idea of spinoff films was bandied about early and the additional films are now becoming a reality. "We are in development of a few standalone films," he said, "that are not part of the Star Wars saga...there are now creative entities working on developing scripts for what would be those standalone films."

Stay tuned to StarWars.com as more exciting developments unfold.

one of them will most likely be Boba Fett.

Mandalorians actually figure pretty largely in the Clone Wars cartoon. Anyone else watch it? It can at times be a little too kid oriented but it's occasionally pretty cool. The latest story line has been interesting and culminated in a kick ass duel between Palpatine vs Darth Maul and his brother.

Boba Fett is the only one that matters. Needless to say I am more interested in these spin off movies then the new trilogy.

I remember before I II and III were released, they had gone into detail about how they were going to incorporate Solo's time at the Academy and his leaving it as part of the story. Maybe they thought it could one day get a movie of its own.
You know, but that's valid because if we are all gonna die anyway shouldn't we be enjoying ourselves now? You know, I'd like to quit thinking of the present, like right now, as some minor insignificant preamble to something else.

I believe he's talking about the Imperial Academy. When Solo wanted to fly TIE fighters.

I watch it. Next to Game of Thrones it's may favorite thing on TV. The character development in this series (especially Palpatine) is top notch. And I love how they incorporate all of the politics that is happening during the clone wars. It's also made me enjoy the prequels much more. I agree about it being a little too kid oriented at times. The episode where 3PO and R2 had to make a cake or get a cake for some birthday party thing was painful to sit through.

Perfect. This is exactly what I was hoping. I know it may be cheesy, but I also kind of hope the story of young Han Solo is told from the perspective of old Han Solo and they get Harrison Ford to play old Han. That would be fantastic.
