We ended up standing with a few people who had also been to FYF (and seen Deerhunter there as well) on Monday at the Deerhunter show in SF, which was awesome. That FYF set easily goes down as one of, if not the, best festival sets I've ever seen. Seeing the sun set/city skyline in the background was an added treat. I can't stress enough how much I enjoy this festival, and I'm coming from a place where I've felt like big festivals are no longer for me for a number of reasons. I'm sort of shocked, actually, that I don't think I saw a single instance of large groups of friends obnoxiously taking pictures of themselves during a set in front of the stage, and pretty much the loudest talker that ever bothered me during a set was getbetter yammering on to any number of you about whiskey or whatever.

"Street Foods Truck" is a terrible fucking name in terms of me being able to find out any information online about where I might run into them again. Oh well.

This thread has gotten me very excited to see Deerhunter this Friday. It will be my first time seeing them since Microcastle came out, and their recent shows sound nothing short of spectacular. I just looked up their setlist... and every single one is so different. I like how they change it up so often. The SF setlist is amazing. I really hope they play "Dream Captain." That is probably my favorite Monomania track.

Yeah the sound issues sucked for MBV but...am I the only one who wasn't completely blown away before that all happened even? I mean, they were good. Just nowhere near as good as Coachella in '09. If the set had been without those problems I would have been satisfied, but it probably wouldn't have been in the top 3 or 4 best sets I saw throughout the weekend.

Well, a lot of our friends DIDN'T go this year... just saying.

And this is the only truck I could find in CA that is literally called "Street Foods," not sure if that's the one you're thinking of though.

I am pretty sure I found it and sent it to Cara on facebook. There was a Street Foods Co. facebook page that had a bunch of FYF photos

Not getting mad, just seems very UN-FYF in spirit.

Agreed. Sean definitely describes FYF as being the ultimate in inclusivity. I mean, he and I used to hi five at the Smell but we never really hung out, but every single time he sees me anywhere now he runs up and gives me a huge hug and asks how everything is going. That doesn't seem like an FYF sort of thing. That seems very Coachella.

I just snagged the Melvins recording. Haven't listened yet, but what a bizarre and delightful setlist they played. That Graveyard cover is something else.

Overall, my fav set of the weekend.

Terrible track. Same with the one that goes "back to the middle...". It's such a hit or miss album and you pick a definite miss.

The Deerhunter recording is excellent. You captured perfectly how Bradford sat in the middle of the mix and never really PUSHED the band so much as let them play with his gentle guidance.

I've seen Yo La Tengo a dozen times over the last 20 years and their FYF set was one of my least favorite. There were some nice moments but overall I thought it was pretty snoozy. I know Ira loves to do the delicate wispy thing, and that's cool, but they used to balance that with a lot more sizzle. Someone commented on here about Ira being a guitar god, but his FYF performance was a shadow of the jams I'd seen him do in the past. I particularly disliked the acoustic Tom Courtenay with Georgia doing the vocals. That is such a powerful song when they do the great backing vocals, but the FYF version had no life to it. I wasn't crazy about the Autumn Sweater arrangement but I thought it was funny when Georgia worked in a little bit of the beat from the Kevin Shields remix, presumably because he was on site. I kept hoping they'd play a rocker like Sudden Organ but when they started into Blue Line Swinger, I decided I didn't want to wait for that to build and headed over to see !!!, who offered some much-appreciated liveliness.

Will consider accepting your apology some day.

Thanks for the recording. Can already hear some of our shoutouts (her at end of intro, me at 1:16 of Cover). So polluted having it, mate.
