Idol snake, get out of that skin.
I had a blast this past weekend. Glad they got the bathroom line issue sorted out by Sunday, but luckily I didn't have to wait terribly long on Saturday. As for the park itself, I think Bryan had it right when he said that it just needs time to recuperate from all these festivals and events; maybe they can put in synthetic grass if they still want to keep using it for concerts/festivals? I liked the new layout for the main stage, but I think I liked it better when the Charlotte Stage was facing the other way. As for the music, top five are:
1. Horse Meat Disco
2. Yo La Tengo
3. Death Grips
4. The Locust
5. The Melvins
HM: Les Savy Fav, Thee Oh Sees, Jonathan Richman, Mac DeMarco, Pional
As for MBV I felt like the set really never recovered after the first outage and, while the band did their best, I was left quite disappointed as this was the set I was looking forward to the most all weekend. By the last song or two you couldn't hear any of the vocals, and I'd say the volume was maybe 60-70% of what it should have been. Hopefully they'll come back later this year or next.
As someone casually interested in seeing MBV I felt satisfied with what I saw of their performance (up to "Only Shallow"). I found parts of it pretty thrilling. If the vocals dropped out later that would have been inconsequential to me since they were mostly inaudible from the start. I thought that was part of their thing anyway.
I'm back in SD and back at work. Had a great time at FYF. It was my first one and I was pretty impressed with everything overall.
It was great to meet so many board people at Wurstkuche and then to run into people throughout the weekend. Big thanks to Zach for introducing me to so many folks. Everyone I talked to was friendly and interesting.

Worth mentioning since the set was so great...It wasn't at the merch tent this weekend, but the Breeders have been selling a great Jay Ryan print at their merch booths this whole Last Splash tour. Its available on his website if you'd like to get one:
As for the fest itself, it was my first time and I was very impressed. The layout works really well for such a small space. The dust obviously sucked but I did like the mats at each stage. It made the only unbearable part the walk between stages and I just broke out the old dust mask on occasion and I was fine. The food was surprisingly tasty. I had the pork Vietnamese nachos which were delicious and a surf and turf burrito later in the day that was yummy as well. The beer selection was pathetic. Stella, shock top, and bud?? Really GV?? Why can't we get a real beer selection like they do at Outside Lands? One of these years I guess.
Now to the music. Here's my top 5. (Only went Saturday)
1) Deerhunter- I've seen them 5 times now and this was my favorite set of the bunch. They were really on their game and I loved the 15 minute jam near the end.
2) TVOTR- wow!! They have always been a bit hit or miss live, but they really brought it this time.
3) Death Grips- has heard from many that I trust that they kill live and they didn't disappoint. Such a dark unique sound. Nice chatting with you TallguyCM for a bit until I was swept away by the pit
4) Crystal Antlers- great afternoon set.
5) SMD- gotta be honest, their live set is WAY better but it was still a great dance party for the hour I saw before Death Grips.
Honorable mention- Metz, Horse Meat Disco and Breeders.
Count me in next year and from here on out. Was a fantastic way to end one of my favorite festival seasons ever.

EDIT* In all seriousness, I'm looking forward to seeing them in November.

This is my 4th FYF and it was by far the most enjoyable one. Didn't seem overcrowded and if you had a bandana the dust wasn't too bad.
