it's not really fair to compare sxsw to other festivals since no other festivals are structured like sxsw.

July 26 - The Sword
July 27 - Black Sabbath
August 16 - My Bloody Valentine

November 16 - Nine Inch Nails
SXSW isn't a festival, it's more of a trade show if anything. There's tons to do, but in all, it's just a bunch of different shows happening at once at different venues, so it's very unconventional.
According to sxshhh, there are 4175 artists on their schedule. No other festival comes close, there is music everywhere you turn. It's also like walking around in a giant commercial, but we don't have to pay for most of it. It gets more ridiculous every year, but is always a blast.
SXSW is very intimidating at first, especially if you've never been to Austin. But once you figure out where to go, then its gravy. The big artists will usually be near impossible to get into unless you have a badge, but can still be really hard to accomplish seeing.
My tips: get a bike, 10 blocks in a minute or two as opposed to ten. Take a photo of your current and expired id together and bring an expired one in case you lose your new one (lost my id last year, big NO NO). Go with the flow, it's hard to make absolute plans. Use twitter, best place to find out whats going on then. Bring a battery pack for your phone, it will be hard to keep it from dying.
Anyways, its almost here. Will be on twitter @rideincircles during the fest.
I go to shows and festivals.

So far, I think I will skip fader altogether this year. It's almost all hip hop and the bands I would care to see are in the middle of the day against other things I want to see. I will definitely try for hype hotel when I arrive tomorrow and probably Thursday. Much better line-ups. That along with Brooklyn vegan are my top two parties thrown this year. So many options though, just fader is not that impressive this year.
I am either heading to Austin tonight or tomorrow morning. Never heard out of my main place to stay, so may postpone heading down until tomorrow to crash closer at my friends house tomorrow.
I go to shows and festivals.

Watched Charli XCX on the iamsound stream to kill some time. I didn't know anything about her other than the vocals she did for that Icona Pop song. I was pleasantly surprised by some of her stuff. Her high waisted (fitted waist) pajama pants were killing me, though.
There are quite a few sites broadcasting online the next few days ....
Coachella Wk2 04/19-04/21
Wakarusa 05/30-06/02
Bonnaroo 06/13-06/16
Dave Matthews Band 08/23-08/24

VooDoo 11/01-11/03
Bridge Benefit 10/???

This thing has officially outgrown itself. After attending sxsw 17 times....I'm done. This is a shit show. It's not about music anymore, it's about OMG I JUST PISSED NEXT TO KID ROCK I FUCKING LOVE MY LIFE BRO! Enjoy your oversized doritos and free red bulls suckers.
it is solely about free booze and partying. i gave up caring about the quality of the official showcases a loooooong time ago.
was at gypsy the other night. white mystery (chicago) was allright, the pharmacy (seattle) was pretty cool. especially the first song they played.
lots of stuff going on today, but i am hung over on a biblical level today after a friend's birthday last night.
it is WAY bigger than ever, and not in a good way. there is such a thing as too much shit going on.
this is entirely why i have little interest in making the effort to trek out for SXSW despite the recommeondations of a few friends. it just seems like a big clusterfuck.
