Default mumford and sons possible headliners? really?

so because munford and sons are the flavor of the month they deserve to headline? cause they have earned that, right? they totally deserve to headline the number one festival in the world. and as much as people try to hate on some of the previous headliners like jack johnson, the killers, the kings of leon, kanye west, and the black keys; im pretty sure they all had atleast 4 albums out and had played the festival multiple times before. or in kanye west's case he had already headlined lollapalooza.

    Extreme longshot:

-last week they announced a Nov 10th Hollywood Bowl show
-they'd make more money doing arenas than what GV could offer them(figuring radius clause)
-the "image" requirement for subs is different than headliners. Some hipster backlash is now present.
-Is most of their audience one that doesn't want to buy a 3 day pass to a festival?

The audience is a good chunk of the ones that go to coachella. Look at everyone who saw them in 2010.
Is there something wrong with playing The Hollywood Bowl in November?
    Image means nothing.
They make LESS money doing arenas. They need to play outdoor amphitheaters to make the real money.

All in all, its not happening anyway, so we should stop beating a dead horse for now....... Its not that it wouldn't ''work'' It's just that maybe GV doesnt feel they ''need'' them to play/headline. Lolla will have them for sure, Outside Lands, Sasquatch, and probably ACL too.

Name a past headliner that played a full length, full sized venue in the LA region between late October through to March of of the new year? This excludes the last minute Jay-z booking anomoly, short Xmas sets, short charity sets and warm up club shows. Leonard Cohen was allowed a major LA show the same week because of his aging demographic.

The topic of radius clauses will pop it's head up in every lineup prediction thread. IMO, all acts with a major full length LA appearance between mid October and March will almost certainly not appear on the lineup come January.

At it's most extreme, clauses would be mid October to late July(some Lolla contracts were upwards of 6 months before the event and 3 months after). M&S management had a choice between $2m for W1&W2 or however much they can make in the LA area during those 9 months with a gaziilion selling album and tour.

I'm with Suprefan on this. Plus, their set in 2011 was boring. No need to bring them back anytime soon.

    It all seems plausible.

Mumford And Sons Can't Believe They All Got Each Other Mandolins For Christmas

LONDON—According to sources close to the English folk-rock quartet Mumford and Sons, the band’s members were surprised to discover during their annual Christmas gift exchange Wednesday that they had all gotten each other new mandolins. “I love my mandolin so much that I decided this was the year to introduce Ted [Dwane], Ben [Lovett], and Winston [Marshall] to this wonderful instrument,” said lead singer and guitarist Marcus Mumford, whose bandmates confirmed they each independently decided to buy each other mandolins with the exact same thought in mind. “To be honest, I thought at least some of the 12 mandolin-shaped packages would turn out to be banjos, dobros, or buzuqs when we unwrapped them. But I can’t say I’m disappointed when I think about the amazing sound we could create with this many mandolins.” Mumford added that the coincidence was at least an improvement over last year’s exchange, when each of the four musicians went home with three copies of the band’s debut EP, Love Your Ground.

They're playing. They aren't headlining. But they certainly could.

Is a radius clause even all that significant anymore? The festival sells out in 5 seconds regardless of if Pink Floyd is headlining, or Big Bird.

There's been 2013 official Hotel/GA packages from under $770/person available for months now, either weekend. GV is in the hotel business just as much as the concert business. M&S play a major full length LA show just a few weeks before GV announce the lineup and expect people to fork up for those pricey travel packages.

I could name 5+ Coachella headliners that wish they could move as many tickets as M&S will in the SoCal market in 2013. They can and will make more money doing their own tour and already have a conflicting LA area show.

yes, that is why I'm curious to how they could possibly fill a 2 1/2 hour set without playing their entire catalog twice

roger waters? lol i may of exaggerated a bit but come one they have 2 albums, theres no way they could fill a major festival set with 2 albums unless they really like to start jamming out up there and turn a 4 minute song into a 14 minute jam.

I dont think Black Keys played much more than 90 minutes last year.

Mumford and Sons sold 600,000 records in their first week - I could see them headlining.
They had a giant crowd last time. With 2 albums you could play 90 minute shows. They
could throw in some cover songs too.

Stone Roses only really have 2 albums, have headlined international festivals, and still skip most of the last disc.

The headliner was Dr. Dre & Snoop Dogg. The two combined, not just Dre is what it read on the poster.

Snoop = 11 Solo Albums, 4 Collaboration Albums
Dr. Dre = 2 Solo Albums, 3 Collaborative Albums (NWA)

    Total = 20 Albums.

I'd be incredibly bummed if they were a headliner and have my doubts of whether they have enough respect to garner that position. I mean sure some folk/power pop bands have headlined before but when Jack Johnson headlined the landscape of popular music and artist obtained by GV was different. How could you bill them higher than Hot Chip or Grizzly Bear when both of those bands respective albums this year have received loads more of critical acclaim? Honestly Tame Impala deserves it more than they do but they will be Outdoor sundown Saturday I'd guess. Regardless, boo to this possibility.

How could you bill them higher than Hot Chip or Grizzly Bear ? How about due to popularity and album sales.

Tame Impala outdoor sundown Saturday spot - I doubt that.
