There's been literally no official statements regarding MGMT's third album, which, even though is currently being worked on, is clearly not going to be out by the end of the year or the beginning of next year. Right now, all signs point toward a late summer/early fall release.

They confirmed at a show at the El Ray last month that they would be on tour again in the states in the spring, and from talking directly with them, they were looking at playing festivals but they would not confirm or deny which ones. IO Echo, who opened for them, also talked about playing some festivals...

Regardless of whether they deserve the status or not, anything involving Reznor would never go lower than the 3rd line, and the odds of them being a sub definitely increase due to the same factor. Sub or 3rd instead of 3rd/4th.

Paul has a vested interest in kissing Trent's (and any other industry giant's) ass and keeping him happy. That doesn't involve putting his wife and treasured side project on the 4th line.
